The Default Setting will shut down the SJ1000 after 3 minutes when operating with the internal battery. If you want to disable the auto power off feature do this: After powering on, go to VDR mode. Then, before the screen powers off, press menu button twice. Scroll with arrow buttons to menu item "auto power off". Press "OK" button. Scroll to menu item "OFF". Press menu button again to return to VDR screen. That answers your first question. 2nd ?: The screen, but not the SJ1000, should auto off after 3minutes, but it is still recording. Look for the blue light between the "M" and "OK" buttons. ........GLE Saint Paul, Minnesota

Count yourself lucky. The older model had the 140 degree lens which, although it gave a wider field of view was pretty wonky with distortion and vignetting. The 90 degree one gives a far more natural view and does not bend everything so crazily around the edges. Most of the benefit of the 140 degree lens was lost when any movement made it look like you were looking through a fishbowl.
