Book Description

digiKam is an immensely powerful photo management application, and mastering it requires time and effort. This book can help you to learn the ropes in the most efficient manner. Instead of explaining every digiKam's feature, the book offers a collection of techniques that can help you to get the most out of this powerful application. In addition to that, the book covers tools that many photographers may find indispensable.

Five facts about the digiKam Recipes book:
  1. This is the first and only ebook about digiKam.
  2. The book was written in close cooperation with the digiKam developers.
  3. 50% of all book sales go to the digiKam project.
  4. The book is DRM-free, so you can read it using any ebook reader or software that supports the MOBI format.
  5. You'll receive all future editions of the book free of charge.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

When I started covering digiKam on my Scribbles and Snaps blog, I did it mostly to document features I personally found useful for my photographic needs. Surprisingly, the blog articles turned out to be rather popular with other digiKam users, so I kept covering digiKam's nifty features as I discovered them. At some point, I realized that the blog contained enough material for an ebook that you can keep handy when working with digiKam. And since the Amazon Digital Publishing Platform solution makes it ridiculously easy to publish an ebook and make it available through the Amazon Web site, the decision to turn the blog material into an ebook form was a no-brainer.

Since it's relatively easy to update a digital publication, I expect the book to evolve and mature to the point where it becomes the definitive collection of digiKam tricks and tips.  And if you decide to purchase the current version of the book will receive all subsequent editions free of charge.

The book wouldn't have been possible without the fantastic digiKam software and its amazing developers. Therefore, 50% of all book sales go to the digiKam project.  The book doesn't use any DRM, and it's released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license, so you can read the book using any ebook reader that supports the MOBI format. Also, you are free to share the book and modify it as long as you share your modifications.

5.0 out of 5 stars So how do you do that in digiKam? March 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't actually have the Kindle edition, it is possible to get electronic versions for other platforms.

This is an outstanding book. There's been another update since I read my copy, so I need to read it again. Actually, that's another good reason to buy this ebook, you do get updates as the book expands and improves!

When I was reading it, what I was thinking about were all the articles in main stream magazines about how to accomplish `X' with that other photo manipulation program. This is a book on the software that I actually use that is letting me know how to do cool thing `X'.

I subscribe to several photograph magazines, and I have yet to see a tutorial talking about how to do HDR with DigiKam. Even in general HDR articles, DigiKam never seems to get mentioned. This book talks about HDR with DigiKam, and so much more, HDR is just one example. In a way, it's like having your own clipping service. Here's a collection of all sorts of cool things you can do with DigiKam that you may or may not have realized.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good starter book August 11, 2012
By Bill
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Not quite what I expected from the preview. It is a good introduction to Digikam, but hardly a recipe book. Some of the more obscure features are identified, which is helpful because discovering them independently would be a hit-or-miss operation.
There could have been more examples of the features, as well as better development of a digital workflow based on Digikam. A good way to decide whether to install the program or not, or as a way to get started with Digikam, but you will outgrow it quickly if you use the program much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have if you use digiKam November 1, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a must-have if you use digiKam to edit, manage and organize your digital photos. For two good reasons: firstly, because it is well written, is getting better and better over time, and has a lot of nice tricks in it. Secondly, because buying it gives money to the project, which is a great thing to do.
