How does everyone feel about the upcoming film adaptation? I just finished listening to the audiobook and had already heard through several friends that a film adaptation, with Brad Pitt of all people, was in the works.
I'm actually excited about that. But how does everybody else feel about this revelation? Could this potential project perhaps give George Romero a run for his money?
They've decided to COMPLETELY alter the premise of the book, and change it from a unique work to just another Hollywood Zombie Apocalypse movie. Pitt isn't going to be the interviewer after the fact, now he's going to be (and since it's Brad Pitt, probably succeeding in) trying to STOP the zombies.
Hollywood Monkeytards, we've SEEN THAT FILM ALREADY!
The whole reason WWZ was effective was becuase it was something NEW, a bunch of separate survivors' stories instead of one long smashfest. They HAD that script in the beginning, but they decided to trash it in favor of something they could market to the Brad Pitt Zombie Brigade.
I was gung-ho for this when the idea to make a movie of it first arose, but now... seriously, BLEH. Whatever exec made this decision should, in the words of the internet, "become An Hero."
It seems lately that Hollywood cant do much right. I would Love to see this as a movie but only if it mirrors the book. If you change the whole premise of the book just to fit Mr Pitt and your Hollywood execs, all you have left is a title and unhappy fans.
