does it work with the smart case cover still on?

Works with tablets of various sizes and thickness. If you are taking of smart case adding to thickness that should not be an issue

Yes absolutely. I've never taken my cover off and I use the stand all the time - it's an excellent buy.

It works ok with my leather Apple smart case ... It just sits a little awkward so I usually snap it off before I seat it.

For sure! Where the Smart Cover clips to the iPad doesn't interfere where the iPad sits.

Yes but...it would probability not be very stable. It relies on the back support touching the tablet. If it touches the case instead it will probably wobble when touched.

Yes, I have an after-market smart case on my iPad 2 and it works fine. There's more than enough room in the grooves of the stand to accommodate.
