I just finished reading this book (free on kindle). I read all the reviews about it, and having just finished it, I'd like not only to review it but respond to some of the negative reviews it's received.

First, a review:

This book sets out the gospel message and explains it easily, the "gospel", or "good news", being that Jesus has died and risen to pay the price for humanity's sins and to defeat death. The author explains this message using clear speech and ample analogies and examples, stories that connect to people's lives or imaginations. This style is, really, similar to Jesus himself explaining his message by telling stories (parables) that connected to the people's daily lives. For those who are seeking and have questions about Christianity, for those who are new Christians, and for Christians who have become weighed down by being taught or otherwise coming to believe that they must be good and add good works to their faith or else God will no longer be pleased with or love them, this book could be very helpful as a starting point. For other Christians, it can be an encouragement, a reminder, or a source to use with their friends who might have questions.

The book is short, which, for it's purpose, is good. It's not supposed to be a detailed discourse on the finer points of doctrine (which many denominations differ on, anyway). It's an introduction to the gospel, and it serves that purpose well.

The only downside of the book is that the author uses an old, difficult to understand version of the Bible for quotations; it would be much better if he updated to something like the NIV or NLT.

Finally, this book, again, is an introduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clear and Convincing October 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"... your conscience proves your soul's existence."

I've read a lot of books on the salvation message but few have been quite so clear and convincing. In a matter of minutes you will read about how you can know for sure that you will spend eternity in heaven. Cary Schmidt's book presents logical arguments and explains how you can get over your fear of death. He explains how most religions are "do" religions where you have to work for your salvation. After explaining why you can't work your way to heaven with good deeds he explains the free gift of God that ensures your everlasting security. I can recommend this book highly to anyone who has a fear of death or who wants to go to heaven when they die. I also think it would be good for Christians who doubt their salvation. I urge you to read this book before you die! Then it will be too late.

5.0 out of 5 stars So DONE! February 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I finished reading this book yesterday and have shared my thoughts in multiple forums. I truly enjoyed reading this book, have recommended it to various people (even showed them how to set up the Kindle Reading App. so they could join me in reading this book), and ordered several copies of the physical book for distribution. This is a really wonderful evangelizing tool; one that I sincerely will use. The content is not new; however, it brings these concepts to the forefront of your memory. A truly good read for everyone. It stresses there is nothing to be done by us since Jesus did it all. When He said it is finished, He meant it. Wonderful job, Cary Schmidt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome! July 1, 2010
Format:Paperback
If you are confused about religion or know someone who is, this booklet will help tremendously. It makes the statement that there are really only two religions in the world -- "Do" and "Done". It is a great tool to understand the Bible and the true way to Heaven. You can read the entire book in one sitting and leave with a clear picture about who God is and why He loves you!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good starting point for a gospel explanation July 30, 2012
Format:Paperback
For it's purposes, this book is just the right length. Its chapters cover the basic gospel script of Do Vs. Done as the framework for a simple explanation of the gospel that allows someone who is considering Christianity to examine the biblical evidence and reasoning of a placing faith in Christ.

I appreciated how short this book is, particularly the logic of the presentation. I could see this book being used as a gift for church visitors, or as a topic for an investigative Bible study. It is one that I would recommend to churches who are doing such things.

What it is:
* A point by point development of the do vs. done outline of a gospel explanation and some of the assumptions behind it.
* Written for people who might be exploring Christianity.
* A refresher for those who want to understand or better present this particular gospel outline.
* A simple presentation of the evangelistic message of Christ.

What it is not:
* A full theology of all the dynamics of salvation.
* A full discipleship manual of what happens after a believer comes to know Christ.
* An apologetics manual defining doctrines or biblical issues outside of the salvation message.

The goal is to explain the basics of the gospel message, with a goal of inviting a reader to take a decision to start following Christ.

For scared church members who want more confidence in a simple gospel presentation, reading this book will help fill in the outline that the Do. Vs. Done Script presents.

My only criticism is that the subtitle is not quite on the point of Do vs. Done. The subtitle talks about "what most religions don't tell you about the Bible.
