5.0 out of 5 stars Achingly beautiful, June 14, 2006
By
This review is from: La double vie de Veronique (The Double Life of Veronika) (Audio CD)
First, I am a bit surprised no one has reviews this magnificant album yet.

The music that flows from this album is of the Gods. You don't have to see the film. Just play this and you will melt. The Concerto in track 5 still brings tears to my eyes even after many listens. It is also a key point in the film.

Zbigniew Preisner is a romantic at heart and no doubt one of the giants of film composition in our time. You don't want to miss his compositions to the Three Colors trilogy as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking and Moving, whether you've seen the movie or not, January 23, 2009
This review is from: La double vie de Veronique (The Double Life of Veronika) (Audio CD)
though I listen to all kinds of music (from mindless pop to hip-hop to almost poetic singer-songwriters and everything in between)...film scores and classical are not something you will not traditionally find me listening to. while, i am gradually developing an interest in classical music, i have to say this has been part of the inspiration for it (the other inspiration being the soundtrack to the french film "Un Couer En Hiver.")

you do not necessarily need to have seen the film to appreciate what i find to be very moving, haunting, gorgeous, music. and keep in mind this is from a composer/classical "virgin" i have virtually no "education" or experience with the genre. i just find it to be one of the most beautiful aural sensations i've ever heard. ever.

but, i think if you are looking at this page, you probably have seen the movie and are familiar with it. although i've rated this five stars (it has quickly become one of my favorite albums), i have to say that like many film scores the "repetition" is a little...irritating, which is one of the reasons i don't like film scores, versus actual classical music where repetition is done a little more calculated way than tracks assembled for a soundtrack.

i have long been a fan of kieslowski (the filmmaker who made this film) and preisner (a frequent composer on kieslowski's films) but it has only been recently that i have acquired this CD. i have to say that my jaw dropped when i saw this unavailable and selling for what i found to be an astoundingly high price (as of 1.23.09...not sure if i should mention how much it was selling for that day.)

this is truly music that makes moves me...and seeing the film only reenforces that, but how much this CD is worth to you (don't know how the price will fluctuate in the future) is up to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars ~ ~ Heaven ~ ~, October 21, 2010
This review is from: La double vie de Veronique (The Double Life of Veronika) (Audio CD)
In playing this CD, one becomes ethereally connected to Heaven. There's nothing else to say, it must be heard to be realized.
