As a college physiology professor and parent of two young children, I am very impressed with this book. It makes advanced physiological concepts readily accessible even to very young children. It covers some of the same concepts that I teach my college freshmen- platelet plugs, fibrin clot formation and retraction, the role of red blood cells in carrying oxygen, the role of white blood cells in fighting infection. I suspect that even some adults might learn something useful and interesting from this book. It never would have occurred to me to teach these difficult concepts to early elementary age children, but this book does a terrific job with it.

A natural intro to this topic is anytime a child falls and gets even a minor cut. I first read this book to my 5-year-old when he fell and injured his mouth and knee. It was so empowering for him to understand what was actually going on- why his cuts eventually stopped bleeding, how they turned into scabs, etc.

Highly recommended!

My 6 and 3 year olds both love this book and ask me to read it over and over and over again. We have several books from this series and love them all, but this is the one that they get out the most and ask me to read to them. Its not really tailored for a 3 year old, but mine is absolutely fascinated with it!
Its got some funny/cute pictures. For example, my kids think its hilarious that in his bathroom medicine cabinet, he has 'Fangpaste'

Kids 4 to 6 will find this an entertaiing read with easy to follow illustrations all about how their blood vessels and heart works with oxygen and their favorite foods (with mostly healthy choices) to help their bodies grow... it explains how blood flows through their bodies, the elements in blood, how scabs form and more!

I discovered this book at the library for my 5 year old child, and I had to buy it, because you eventually have to return library books. It is very informative, the illustrations are spot on, the characters are very cute and likeable, and the whole story is a bit silly and entertaining for a child. I enjoyed it, and in fact I have discovered that I thoroughly enjoy almost any Let's Read and Find Out Science book of both levels (1 and 2). I wish I'd known about these when I was a child; I'm sure I would have devoured them then as I am now doing with my own young children.

10/10 do recommend

I bought this book for my second grade nephew and I think that it is very educational and informative. It states interesting facts about blood, and how important it is to the body. I think that the illustrations are colorful and cute. I love these Read and Find Out Science books for second and third graders. Appropriate for them at a level where they could understand about science. Contains lots of vital information.

My daughter enjoys learning about how the human body works and so, although she is only 4, we gave this book a try. She loves it! The pictures are engaging and she loves the "halloween" characters. However, the book still manages to include a pretty thorough explanation of bllod in the human body. She will enjoy this book for years to come as she is able to understand more and more of the information presented.

Love it! My daughter loves this book. Gives great detail, just the right amount of detail to understand without being too long. Bought it for my daughter, she's 4. It's also not boring! It is a little weird that it's Dracula and his monster telling the story, I get why, but found it interesting because my daughter doesn't know about Dracula so that kinda confused things in the beginning but later she just concluded it was some monster and a guy dressed up in a costume for Halloween telling the story. The information is great and my daughter and I enjoy the book & would recommend it!

A Drop of Blood (Let's-Read-and-Find-Out Science 2)

Really nice book with lots of info about what blood is and what it does for our bodies. It's amusing to me that this has dracula even if my 5 year old doesn't know who that is. The diagrams are concise and easy to understand. There are photos of magnified blood cells, diagrams of how the blood flows thru our bodies. Since all kids skin their knees there is an explanation of what happens when you get a boo-boo and blood comes out and a scab forms while new skin grows to cover the cut. There is even info on how much blood we have inside us at different ages.
We are steadily collecting all the "Let's read and find out" series. I haven't found one yet that I didn't enjoy. My 5 year old genuinely loves to learn about science so these books feed his hunger for knowledge. It doesn't seem to matter which level we read from. This one is level 2. He isn't reading them yet but likes me to read to him still. The information isn't over his head even when the reading level is. I highly recommend them all.
