I will admit straight off that I am a huge fan of this author/illustrator. As a story time leader, I eagerly look forward to each of his new picture books, secure in the knowledge that it will be perfectly in tune with the imaginations of my preschool and toddler audiences. I know that they won't be too long, and that the author's spare text will perfectly complement illustrations that are simple and well defined. This author has mastered the art of "less is more" in picture books and still manages to convey messages that are full of spirit, imagination and whimsy. Little White Rabbit does not disappoint. It feeds the imagination and celebrates curiosity. This is a wonderful selection for any group of toddlers or young preschoolers. The color scheme evokes Spring and Easter but this is a book that can be read year round. It's going into my own story time collection, right next to Birds, Old Bear, A Good Day, and My Garden. Another stellar effort not to be missed. Recommended.

Little white rabbit hops along and wonders what it would be like to be different. What would it be like to be green or tall or like a stone or like butterflies? When frightened by a cat, he hops as fast as he can, back to home, back to his mother rabbit who loves him. This cozy picture book is perfect for older infants and young children ages 2-5.

Fuel your child's life with imagination: walk in the snow and photograph your footprints, make a snow angel worth photographing, and then walk briskly to the neighborhood library and find this appealing book.

Kevin Henkes is said to have written and illustrated his first book, All Alone, while in high school; that's quite an accomplishment. His parents fostered his love for reading, illustrating, and imagining by visiting the library. From there, his creativity took wing and in the latest book, published in January 2011, he introduces Little White Rabbit who wonders of being bigger, bigger than life, only to realize that wondering is great, within limits. Little White Rabbit meets a life-size cat and reconsiders what he wishes for.

I am all for giving your child wings for life's adventures. This book, with its colored pencil and acrylic illustrations will both allow your child to adventure into the story, its meaning and consequences, and possibly, illustrating a story on her own.

Once the little rabbit is exhausted from his wonderings, he heads home to find his Mother's arms ready to greet him. Hopefully, acquainting your child with books like this, she or he, too, will run into your arms.

This was a darling book. Deals with imagining what being something else is like including being green, being tall, flying, sitting still like a rock, etc. Could have kids interact with each page and hold still and be silent like a rock or to reach up to be as tall and stomp around like a giant. Could also read the book quietly and have students close eyes and imagine what each is like. Images large enough for a small group to read together. Could read to boy or girl especially during spring or Easter time. The flying page is the only image that stood out as very girly... due to the flock of butterflies, but the image was SO WONDERFUL that i don't think young boys would mind.

The only thing i did not like was the part about the cat and then running home. I think there could have been a far cuter way to get the bunny back home... perhaps thinking of what it would be liked to be ? and then the bunny realizing they did not have to imagine this... and ran off home to mom and bed.

The cat thing just ruined the flow of the book for me, but overall I enjoyed the book very much.

My 1 year old loves this book. The pictures are good and the story is quite readable. A lot of the children's books I've encountered so far have had awkward, badly written rhymes that just feel too forced. This book just uses simple prose and it's really better that way; With the bad rhymes, my daughter loses interest and wiggles all over the place, but with this book she is totally enthralled.

Kevin Henkes is my favorite! I enjoy reading his books to my kids. My son's favorite was Old Bear, but Kitten's First Full Moon and Birds came a close second and third. For my Daughter we added Little White Rabbit and A Good Day, which both are of the same high quality as Henkes' other books for young children. The illustrations are beautiful, and I enjoy the simpleness of the story itself and how the characters are related to the world around them. The animal protagonists are curious and imaginative just as children are.

Our one year old had a bunny-themed first birthday party and I bought this book for her to be able to read to her at bedtime. The illustrations are beautiful and it was fun for my four year old to find and point out the bunny on each page. The little rabbit has a great imagination and wonders what it would be like to be different things that he sees throughout his day. There are not a lot of words to this book but I think it must spark a bit of imagination to the little readers to think about what it really would be like to be a tree or a rock or even a bunny. Plus, the ending is super sweet.
