Find Me Where the Water Ends is that type of book that not only perfectly ties together Lydia's character arc from beginning to end, it's also the type of book that provides important (and occasionally difficult) life lessons on adulthood, and what it means to adjust to what life throws at you.

The Lydia of this book has ambitions and life goals that are very different from the Lydia of the first book, but Carter makes it very clear how Lydia has grown and evolved to this point. There is never the sense that Lydia has lost her dreams, more that she has adjusted her expectations as time has progressed - something that is not only fitting given Lydia's involvement with the Montauk Project, but also a thoughtful idea for readers to mull over.

I highly recommend this book for fans of the trilogy (obviously), but also for fans who are looking to dip their toe into science fiction. Carter does a fantastic job of delving readers into a science fiction world, without overwhelming them with ideas and facts.

Also, on a personal note: I read So Close to You the day it was released, and have read every book in the trilogy the same way. I've loved seeing how Rachel Carter's writing has evolved over time, and it's abundantly clear in Find Me Where the Water Ends that Rachel is definitely someone who will remain a strong voice in the YA and literary world. *Tips hat to Rachel*

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: The perfect ending to a magnificent series. This is a young adult sci-fi series you will not want to miss!

Opening Sentence: The dress is laid out on the bed, so dark red it looks black in the muted light of the hotel room.

The Review:

Seventeen year old Lydia Bentley never saw herself becoming a recruit for the Montauk Projects, but when they threatened the people she holds most dear in her life she agrees to do whatever they say. They keep telling her that this is her destiny and that the mission she is supposed to complete will change history forever. She is forced to do things she never thought possible and if she wants to survive she will have to learn to trust the one person that broke her heart.

Lydia hates the Projects and everything they have taken away from her. But she is just one of many that have had their life destroyed by the evil people that run the Montauk Project. When she is offered an opportunity to live in a world without the projects she jumps at the chance. But nothing in this world comes without consequences, and Lydia’s not sure she can live with herself if she loses anyone else she loves.

Lydia has grown enormously since the last time we saw her. She has been training to be a Project recruit for the last 9 months and not only has she changed physically, she has also changed emotionally. The training was vigorous and everything she has ever cared about has been taken away. But even though she has been through so much she is still essentially the same person. Perhaps she is a little bit more cynical, and not quite as naive as she once was, but she is still a good person that tries to do the right thing.

I could hardly wait for this book to come out! I was not disappointed! It is well written and I could hardly put it down! I couldn't get to the end fast enough, and that is saying something since it was released yesterday! I own this whole series and I have read books one and two multiple times. Definitely worth reading again and again. :) 5 stars, because I can't give it more. :)

Oh man, this is the perfect ending to this trilogy! I was completely blown away, and read the book all in one sitting. When you don't need a bookmark, that's a sign of a good book.

The futuristic setting was very interesting, with the holograms and traffic grids for cars and computerized contact lenses. Very cool, and the perfect backdrop for more crazy missions and adventures with the Montauk Project.

The stakes are really high in this last book. Everything is on the line; Lydia's family, her relationship with Wes, the evil reach of the Montauk Project, and the future of the entire world... it all hangs on Lydia's decisions, and every little action she takes could mean the end. The suspense is horrible/wonderful!

There are a couple of death scenes that made me cry my eyes out, and my heart got all broken up in pieces, then slowly stitched back together again through the story. Gah! I can't handle it. I'm still mourning over those beloved people. I'm literally tearing up as I write this. Musn't. Cry. Over. Fictional. Characters. Nope, too late. Waaaaahh!!!

Lydia goes through some major changes in this book, and comes close to losing part of herself. I was right there with her the entire time, feeling what she was feeling, going through those difficult situations with her! I just adore her character development through the whole series. Brilliant writing!

Wes is finally coming together as a person. That mystery that has shrouded him from the beginning, and made him such an interesting character, begins to be resolved, and his true personality begins to shine out. What a beautiful character! I love him to death.

Tim is my new favorite!
