My daughter has loved all of the Fancy Nancy books and especially the beautiful artwork in her books. Last year at age 6 my daughter began reading chapter books and was thrilled that she could "grow up" with Fancy Nancy and read her first mystery. When she wanted to get "Secret Admirer" from the library I didn't think anything of it.
For the most part, she will pick up a chapter book and finish it that night or by the next evening. When I noticed she was not all that interested in this book I decided to sit down and read it with her. Imagine my surprise when I found out the topic was "love" and match making...for a very young audience. If the topic wasn't bad enough for a 7 year old, as I read, Nancy and Bree were cruising around town on their bicycles "secretly" so obviously her parents do not know where they are, and it begins to rain. Nancy's teenage guitar teacher, who they are trying to "fix up" with a teenage girl, happens to drive by and offers Nancy and Bree a ride home in his truck. Nancy and Bree for all purposes are worldly and very intelligent girls...but do not question getting in a vehicle with a teenage boy when their parents have no idea where they are or who they are with.
I was so glad I had this teachable moment to speak to my daughter about not going places and especially not accepting rides with out our permission. Jane O'Connor needs to understand she has a very young captive audience and she needs to make the effort to "say and teach" the right thing, such as "I need to call my Mom first"! My daughter will not be reading any further Nancy Clancy books until I have reviewed the content!

I usually can forgo the fact that children in novels run around town without supervision. However, in this novel Nancy and her friend Bree jump into the truck of Nancy's guitar teacher and accept a ride to get out of the rain. What a horrible example and a shame because my daughter loved the 1st Fancy Nancy chapter book. This again proves parents need to keep track of what their child is reading.

The seven-year-old daughter and I were looking forward to this. We liked, but didn't love, the first in this series, NC Super Sleuth. Nope, we didn't love it, but hoped the second would shore up the series some. It doesn't. While we both enjoyed our reading well enough, we were disappointed that the mystery elements were completely missing here. My daughter thought maybe we had found a new mystery series suitable for her age and reading level, but this drifts far afield from mystery. I was a little confused by the romance bit. Perhaps this is aiming older (though it seems, reading-wise right in line), but neither I, nor the second-grader-to-be are much taken with trying to hook-up teenagers. While they story is sweet-natured and nothing inappropriate goes on, the obsession with finding "eternal love" doesn't warm any cockles for either of us.

So it's two "meh"s from us. Not bad, nothing special. We were just hoping it might be. Might try one more in this series, but no breath is baited around our house on this series.

This book is cute, but the first one was much better, and my daughter was a bit disappointed. She loved the "mystery" in the first book. She liked this one, but I had to explain a lot to her. I'm not sure why the author decided to write an entire novel about Nancy trying to "set up" two teenagers that she knows. I agree with another reviewer who wrote that the content is a bit "old" for the 6-10 age crowd.

This one is not even half as good as the first Nancy Clancy book. It left both me and my daughter disappointed and wondering what was that all about. The first book we re-read over and over again. This one, not a chance.

"Fancy" Nancy is all grown up. My daughter loves these books and it is a lot of fun that she gets to grow up as the character does. I love the emphasis in the earlier books about expanding vocabulary in such a fun way, so it is great that the author has expanded into chapter books.

We originally borrowed this from the local library, but my daughter enjoyed it so much, we had to get her a copy of her own. This is the second book in the series, and a third is available in hardback (hopefully it will be released in paperback soon).

While my daughter loves the fun character that dresses up and pretends, I really appreciate that we get to see Nancy make mistakes and clear up relationships. It makes for a great learning opportunity as we read through the books together. I also have a feeling that we'll be branching into one of Nancy Clancy's favorites, Nancy Drew soon as well. This is a beautifully designed series that keeps kids entertained while being educational in a way that doesn't beat you over the head. I'm looking forward to many more of Nancy's adventures.

My seven year old daughter, who is in Second Grade, loves these books. She was a HUGE Fancy Nancy fan--and still is--so she was super excited when we discovered that Nancy was going to get her own chapter books. The Nancy Clancy stories are a mix of Nancy Drew's The Clue Crew and Fancy Nancy...in other words, Nancy Clancy has brought her own unique, fancy style to the amateur detective arena. LOL Ms. O'Connor has certainly upped her game with the Nancy Clancy storybooks. Each book is just as well written, each story just as entertaining as any of the Fancy Nancy books. Additionally, the books are just as beautifully illustrated as the FN books, albeit they are in black and white.

This story is the second book in the series, which so far only consists of five books--unfortunately! Anyhow, the book blurb pretty much tells you the gist of the story. Nancy Clancy and her best friend, Bree decide to play matchmaker, but nothing works out as planned. According to my daughter, this story isn't really a mystery. Instead it's about Nancy and Bree trying to get two teenagers to fall in love. LOL

To date, my daughter has read all the Nancy Clancy books and is eagerly awaiting more. FYI, she is in Second Grade and is able to read these books independently. According to her, all the Nancy Clancy books are great and deserve five stars.
