Once you start this series, you will not want to stop until you have read the entire saga. The authors are experts at building suspense and writing cliffhangers, so save yourself some money, and buy it all at once. My eight-year-old son is deeply invested in these characters, and I'm hooked, too.

That said, these books are not the greatest literary works on the planet. They are full of stylistic inconsistencies, continuity errors (what color are Crowfeather's eyes?), and outright grammatical errors. Nevertheless, the stories themselves make up for the occasional lack of art in the telling of them, and I am glad to have been able to share them with my son.

I'm an 18 year old who has been a fan of the series since the release of the first book of the original series "Into the Wild". I loved the original series and still re-read them to this day. I am a die-hard warriors fan and probably always will be, so don't take this lightly when I say this series wasn't all that great.
When I read the first book I was expecting something totally different than what I got. It wasn't a bad surprise, but definitely wasn't what I expected. I enjoyed it. This enjoyment lasted for about the first three books. Then in Dawn, something I really hated happened(I won't say what, just suffice to say I had to put the book down and wait a bit before I could continue reading). I began to become wary of the direction the series was headed in, but was still willing to go along for the ride. The momentum of the story kept me going and I still enjoyed the books. Then I got to the last one. The biggest disappointment in the warriors series for me.
It would be an understatement to say that the finale of New Prophecy pales in comparison to that of Darkest Hour. They aren't even close. I began to suspect I wasn't going to get what I had hoped for when I had maybe a chapter left and they still hadn't resolved the true conflict of the story. The ending of the series seemed extremely rushed. There just wasn't the same suspense, or even the same flow. The finale starts like it might lead somewhere, but the end comes far too soon and just left me sitting there wondering "Is that really it? Really?" The truth is, my friend(another avid fan) and I often still joke about it.
I won't say it is a bad series, because that's not true at all. It is worth reading. Just don't come in expecting anything like the original series. You won't get it.

Ironically my mother bought the first two books for my son two years ago, and they sat on his shelf. His best friend read them and raved about them, so he finally gave them a try. He has devoured these books. For the first time ever I found myself saying, "I can't believe I'm saying this, but put that book down!" He's now on book four. He started today, Thursday, and I can pretty much guarantee he'll be done by Sunday and begging for the next one. He took the AR tests at school for the first three and answered every question correctly. I'm thrilled! (He also loved "The Looking Glass Wars" - wasn't as crazy about the sequel "Seeing Redd.")

A Kid's Review on September 5, 2009
Format: Paperback
Greetings, I am Rubytail of LeafClan, descended from SkyClan. This set of six books tell the story of how the four Clans that live in the forest make the great journey to new territories. The books take the point of view of three ThunderClan cats, Brambleclaw, a young warrior who faces a small amount of dejection due to his father being the murderous Tigerstar, Leafpaw, Firestar's daughter, who chooses the difficult path of a Medicine Cat and has a special connection with her sister, Squirrelpaw, who has a hard time because of her disobedient and mischievous nature. New Prophecy is a very good story, but not as great as the original series. I miss Firestar, the old main charater, and the more developed characters in the original series, and amazing plotlines that the first six books had. They were deeper, awesomer, more intense, and more... warriorsy. I would still advise Warriors: New Prophecy, but MAYBE you should get it from the library instead of buying it.

These are great books! My son did not like to read, now he won't put them down. What's more, he insisted I read the first one, and now we are both hooked on this series. Fireheart, Bluestar, Graystripe and Ravenpaw are like friends and we can't wait to see what happens next.

My (then-future) husband bought me Watership Down as a birthday gift long years ago, and I loved it. No other animal stories have quite lived up to its memory till I started reading Erin Hunter's Warriors books. Last Christmas my husband, still wisely predicting my tastes, bought me the first series of Warriors, and last week he bought me the second. I'm delighted to say I still love these wonderful cats.

Erin Hunter has an enviable talent for telling stories within a series. Each novel is complete in itself, one major danger having slowly been revealed and dealt with, one set of relationships having been brought into question and either resolved or convincingly shelved, and one deliberate forward step having clearly been taken in the overall story arc. I could pick easily any single book up and read it without feeling lost. Or I can read them one after another (I did) without feeling bored.

The overarching story is nicely plotted, keeping me eager to know more. The cats have pleasingly convincing characters and a well-researched way of life. And the spirituality of Star-Clan watching from the heavens is delightfully drawn, even to non-believers and the fate of the lost. The mythic lends a satisfying completeness to the characters, and, while human emotions are easily recognized, these cats are always their own well-defined individuals, never devolving into animals playing at people.

Two-legs (or No-furs, of whatever else we are called) cause much trouble in the world around us. But warrior cats aren't perfect either. Erin Hunters stories come pretty close to perfection though, and I highly recommend them.

Disclosure: My husband bought them for me. My mother's going to read them next. And me, I couldn't put them down.
