I found this gem of a book at a local big box store. It is filled with gorgeous flowers, garden scenes and inspiring quotes. I was a little disappointed that it was printed on both sides until I test my coloring medium (more on that later.) The designs have a good amount of detail but not so much that it is intricate or too small to color. I appreciate the high quality of this book and hope to see more coloring books by both this artist and by this publisher (Harper Collins) in the future.

The designs are printed on both sides of the heavyweight, non-perforated page. Most of the designs merge into the binding. A few of the designs spread across two pages. In my copy, the alignment of the two-page spreads is excellent. The binding is a hybrid of glued and sewn. The sewn binding is the type that has many stitches rather than just a few. Because of the binding and the way the design merge in (though nothing of note is lost in the binding), I will not be removing pages from this book. If you wish to do so, you will have to cut them out and you will probably lose some portion of the design in doing so. I was able to get the book to lay fairly flat by breaking the spine.

Only my alcohol-based markers bled through this paper. I was able to use all of my water-based markers, India ink artist pens, and gel pens without any bleed through. Gel pens required some extra drying time but that is common for gel pens on a good grade of paper. My coloring pencils worked excellently. The soft lead pencils went on thick with full coverage and blended beautifully. The hard lead pencils worked well and did not leave indents on the back of the page. Love this book!!!I bought it on sale at Walmart for $11. Great quality, beautiful images and inspirational quotes woven into the designs. My mom wants one for herself after she saw how beautiful this book is. I only wish it wasn't double-sided so I could use my Derwent Inktense pencils, but regardless this book is just beautiful. I used prismas and polychromos for this picture.

Update: You CAN use inktense pencils if you don't let the page get too saturated with water. This is more of a keepsake book, as I would hate to ruin it by removing pictures to frame-although the images are definitely frame worthy.

This "Joyous Blooms To Color" is one of my favorite coloring books yet.....The designs are just "fabulous" and full of happy inspirational quotes to uplift your spirits...........It is an excellent way to relieve daily stress in your life.....I bought two of these books, so my niece can have one.......I have been coloring for about three years now and it helps to relax, meditate and have quite time alone.......Coloring now is being used as therapy, especially with children that have special needs because it helps them to focus more and keep calm.......Sparks creativity and imagination with the color patterns you chose.......

All of the designs are hand drawn by artist, Eleri Fowler.......They are full of Blossoms, Birds, Bees, Trees, Vines, Roses, Daisy's, Birdhouses, A Swing, Dragonflies, Mandalas, Full Page Gardens Galore, With sayings like Dream, "Wherever Life Plant's You Bloom With Grace", a French Proverb, Wander, "To Unpathed Waters Undreamed Shores" by Shakespeare, and so on...

You need to experience this book yourself and go on a joyous, journey to a magical, place........The pictures are on both sides of the pages......Printed on bright , white really thick paper..........I used for the picture you will see, Acid Free, cheap gel pens, by Art-N-Fly that I received as a sample....... Mixed with my Fiskar gel pens and colored pencils.......There was absolutely no bleed thru to the other side.......The pages are not perforated, but I wouldn't cut mine out anyway.......This is a special "Keepsake Book" to enjoy for a lifetime.....

Let me preface this by saying I am extremely picky when it comes to my *adult* coloring books. I get bored easily. Joyous Blooms is absolutely my favorite book yet. Just simply looking at a photo of it makes me feel happy! The paper quality is wonderful. There is a mix of simple and detailed pages to suit your free time or mood. The quotes are thought provoking and beautiful, and the drawings just leave me feeling peaceful and happy, even without coloring them. If you enjoy beautiful flowers and garden themed pictures to color, than this book is for you. Thank you for such a wonderful, beautiful book, Eleri!

For reference, Johanna Basford's books are all among my top 5 favorite coloring books as well.

This is the most gorgeous coloring book! I love every page in the book. The paper is super thick and you get no bleed thru. I only wish that there were blank pages on the backs so I could frame some and not lose any pages to color!

This is one of the best non-Johanna-Basford coloring books that I've found so far. The pictures aren't quite as intricate as Basford's as a rule, but they still have lots of delightful details. They're almost all as nice as the one on the cover (see the great video posted by another reviewer). The paper is smooth and takes colored pencils wonderfully. (I mix and match all kinds of colored pencils, from Caran d'Ache to Crayola--even Dollar Store brands occasionally--and they work equally well.) All in all, it's a joy to color! I have the other book in the series too, and I hope there will be more--the sooner, the better. The fantasy flowers and stylized "real" flowers are lovely, and the little "critters" too. I like to color realistic nature pictures but these drawings with their dream-like flora and fauna are so much fun when I don't want to be messing around with reference materials or trying to get the real-world colors "exactly right." Here you can either stick to realistic colors or let your imagination run wild--the end result is a beautiful picture and a happy relaxed feeling.
