Easy to follow and explains every concept as you go. There is some great challenging vocabulary but it's so easy for 1st grade children to follow that the few challenge words just make for a great discussion.

I bought this book as well as Forces Make Things Move for use in an engineering class I did for kindergartners/first graders and they were both fabulous. The author does a great job of distilling complicated ideas into simple easy to understand concepts, which is NOT an easy feat. The kids had no trouble understanding the ideas as presented and even the adults present learned some new things. The illustrations are engaging and well-done. I would happily buy anything else from this author and highly recommend these both!

I find the Let's Read and Find Out books to be of varying quality. Some of them are great, some of them are more mediocre. This one falls somewhere between those poles, for me. Overall, it's fine, but there are a couple of moments when energy (especially types of potential energy) are explained in ways that I think are slightly confusing to little kids. There's a section in this book where potential energy is discussed using a boulder on top of a hill that I struggled to answer my child's questions about, for instance.

My 6-year-old son has this book and loves to read it! Also, we have 5 others from this series and would like to purchase more - they are that good!! I'm learning all kinds of things from these books as well! We highly recommend and give as gifts to other kids too.

I really like the "Let's Read and Find out Science 2" series. These are great science books for elementary school and they are perfect for my first grader. They use familiar examples to introduce basic scientific concepts in a simple but fun way. They are interesting for both kids and adults. I have found them to be a valuable tool to teach these concepts to my kids.

I really like this book about energy.

I've always loved this set of science books and it is a legacy to it's founder Dr. Franklyn M. Bradley, that it is still going strong over 50 years after he started it. This book is very well written in an engaging style. While obviously covering a wide range of topics briefly at only 33 pages it can only touch upon the topic but it manages to set a firm foundation. I'm particularly pleased with how well the book goes about relating how all energy can be related back to the sun from giving a variety of very different examples such as a rock rolling down a hill to the more obvious milk we drink from the table. At the end of the book there is even a "game" challenging you to try to trace anything that uses energy back to the sun. Fun! The artwork is nice. Meisel has created large groupings of multi-ethnic children that look natural and are not even noticeable that he made a conscious effort to do so. Of course publisher's ask for this sort of thing but Meislel's work is completely natural, with the ethnic groups being complete examples of real-life. I like how he made red-heads prominent as well. Good serious book in the series.
