I am a senior economist who finished his Ph.D in the mid eighties in Moscow at the Plejanow Institute and wanted a book that could gave me a whole picture (at once) of the current advances in mathematics for economists. This is an excelent book for that porpouse. I don't think this is a book for begginers. There are some tipographical errors (that I hope will be corrected for the next edition)that deteriorates in some way the overall quality of the book. Nontheless if you have some background in mathematics for economistas it will help you reinforcing your knowledge. I think this book could be named the pocket Bible of mathematics for economists. This is an excelent book.

You can strip things down too far. This book takes too much out, and the edition I read (the first half of, anyway) had too many typos to be useful for the intended audience -- people who really don't know the material yet, or haven't looked at it in a long time. This is an embarrassment to the Schaum series, which otherwise I like very much.
