5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for anyone working in the area of anxiety, August 8, 2007
As a psychologist specializing in the area of anxiety, I found this book extremely useful. The author, Isaac Marks, is a guru in the world of anxiety. He has been around for a long time and has a huge amount of experience. This book is a 2nd edition from his first which was written over 30 years ago. Now the reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 was because, and I hope I don't get hit by lighting for saying this about the guru himself, but the author could have updated a lot of his references. Some of his reference were from the first edition which were from the 1950's and earlier. I felt that it's fine to keep these, though it would have been good to have them accompanied by updated research. The field of psychology has changed dramatically since the 1950's, and therefore leaves you guessing if this is really accurate information. Please note, that only some of his references are like this, not all. Now with that said, the book is still brilliant and highly relevnt. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in the area of fear and phobias. It is academically based, so maybe not the best choice if you are wanting to know who to beat a phobia of spiders for example. Though if you want to know more about the field of anxiety and phobias, then this book is a must for your library.

Anthony Gunn, psychologist and author of Fear Is Power: Turn Your Fears Into Success
