This would be a great book for someone new to photography, to DSLRs, or to Nikon. It has lots of good information about how to use the camera in varying situations, and lots of good, if generic, advice on photography in general.

My purpose, however, was to get information that went beyond the Nikon manual, that explained in more detail exactly what was going on with some of the camera's features. For example, I wanted to know just exactly what Active D-Lighting does, and does it impact RAW captures? Or more detail about the differences between autofocus group mode and single point mode, and why you'd choose one over the other. The book simply isn't written at that level, and I was disappointed. Hence the three stars.

I would recommend this book to anyone new to digital photography or new to DSLRs in general. I'd characterize it as a beginning photography book, using the D750 for examples. I wouldn't recommend it for someone who, like me, is looking for more in-depth information than is contained in the manual itself.

Great book to complement the user's manual. I especially liked the first chapter "The D750 Top Ten List" which walks you through setting up the camera's most important settings, which is helpful when dealing with a brand new camera.
I also like the fact that all the example photos in the book are documented with the particular settings used to take them. Finally, each chapter has an assignments section for practicing the things discussed in that chapter, which gives you a chance to evaluate your understanding of the content.
All in all a good book to have with you, at least in the early stages of learning how to use the Nikon D750 (which by the way, I love).

Received this today and have read about half of the book. I am impressed. The book discusses the D750 and its features and then expands on the use of the camera. There are many photos in the book and each photo has the exposure information. The book is an intro to the D750 and then goes into photography techniques. It contains both good and bad examples, Well developed book and worth the cost.

This is a very nicely written and well illustrated book with lovely photographic works. Rob does not go into the very 'nit picking' of the cameras user manual but rather, centers on those things that a person who is new to, or already is knowledgeable in the use of DSLR's needs to know in order to get out doors and shooting with this camera. He covers everything from batteries to movie making. Many aspects of this camera are the same that you will find in the D610 or D7100. As you know, one can read the owners manual until smoke is coming out of your ears and your eye's cross from all of the info that you just don't need to know at this time. Rob puts those things that you should need, and know up front. Nicely done and a good read.

Well written. after using Nikon N65, N80, D50, D90 for 11 years, I decided to go full frame FX. I am reading couple of books to get to know what I am going to. Planning to buy camera after a few months. This way if I feel this is not the camera for me I can make that decision too. The book is well written. Fonts are great and there are lot of photos as well. I like the physical aspect of the book and is a grear read when you are on plane or metro rides.

I teach photography on the side and cannot recommend this book more. I tell my students to look for it (for their model of camera) because it does such a fantastic job of explaining big concepts in a way that makes sense to the specific camera.

This book bridges a gap between the concept of photography I'm teaching and how to actually perform the concept on their camera, which means the student gets out there to shoot sooner and more often because they aren't hindered by the learning curve that comes with trying to self-learn a camera's menu and functionality.

Excellent read. My wife just got into photography recently and got this guide immediately after purchasing her D750. The first 20 pages are absolute gold for anyone new to the hobby. many "assignments" in the book based on concepts learned helped her to cement the ideas into her head, and as a result, she is advancing quickly. She gets the exposure triangle and how the 3 elements work with and against each other. A well thought out and executed guide.

Great book. I'm new to the D750 and this book is a great resource to get started. It is very clearly written/structured and the information is relevant without much "fluff". Would highly recommend to anyone that purchases the D750, unless of course you are coming from a camera with very similar features (i.e. D610, D7200, etc.).
