Covers all the basics - technical, logistical, big arenas, festivals, small clubs, post processing and marketing. Includes lots of good picture examples. This book is full of practical advice from a working pro. The Kindle version is as good as the printed version - you don't loose any pictures or drawings.

Fantastic tips and amazing photography! I have several of Mr. Thomas' photography books and this one is yet another go-to when I am about to go shoot at a concert. His tips are easy to follow and his images are a sure sign that he knows what he is doing.

Finally, a book that deals with concert photography from a digital perspective! The few books that were available were hopelessly outdated. This book tells you how to shoot concerts in this day and age and deals with the pitfalls and practicality of digital cameras. Older books talked too much about film, which reacts WAY differently than digital camera sensors.

This book covers all of the different venues that you will come across on your journey to being a pro concert photographer, from bars to stadiums. It's easy to read and it's also full of photos for reference. Not only will you learn from this book, but it also makes a great coffee table book because of the pics of cool bands!

Concert and Live Music Photography covers all of the topics you've been wondering about, from what cameras and lenses to use, to dealing with the crazy lighting situations! It also tells you how to get in touch with the PR people and what to say to them. This is great advice because it lets you know how to talk to management like a pro, which improves your chances of getting a pass exponentially.

Bottom line is that this is the best book on music photography that you will find. It's got all the info you need and the guy that wrote the book is easy to understand and he's got the street cred too! Check out the stuff he's shot for Rolling Stone and SPIN!

If you want to get into music photography, but don't know where to start, BUY THIS BOOK. If you've been doing music photography for a while, but need a fresh perspective and some new pointers, BUY THIS BOOK! If you're just a fan of good pictures of musicians, BUY THIS BOOK!

I have been shooting live music for about 6 months now and needed a little help. This book covers just about every situation you could find yourself in and has a solution for any problems. This book covers typical lighting situations in clubs, bars, arenas, and even the awful lighting that we face more often than not.

Another area that I needed help in was Processing and organization. I am now using the authors methods and have cut down on my processing time in half.

Reading this book will not make you a great photographer, only getting out there and doing will take care of that...however this book will give you the tools you need to be more confident and will answer those nagging questions in your head "Why didn't this come out the way I wanted it?" or "how would a true professional treat this situation?" Now we know.

You will no doubt have more confidence in what you are doing after you read this book. Shooting live music isn't easy, but it will be easier once you take the advice that Mr. Thomas.

You have all the answers and more, so take advantage of the tried and true method and take your photography to the next level and beyond.

As an aspiring concert photographer, I am finding this book to be absolutely stuffed full of valuable information. It provides an answer to just about every question I could have. Do you need to know what camera settings work best for the bar/club/festival/ampitheatre you are shooting in? Are you wondering which lenses should be included as the "must haves" in your camera bag? Need some tips on getting the best possible shots of the lead singer/drummer/bassist/ukulele player? Having trouble figuring out who to get in touch with about acquiring a photo pass? All of these questions are addressed, as are composition and lighting tricks, editing tips, photo pit etiquette, and basically any other scenario or issue that could possibly arise for a concert photographer. I especially enjoyed the wide array of photographs that are included throughout the book - every technique mentioned is accompanied by a relevant photograph, with all of the equipment and settings used to capture each shot helpfully included. I eagerly poured through this book as soon as it arrived, absorbing as much information as possible upon my first read-through, and I no doubt will be returning to it frequently as a very useful reference to guide me along my way. I'd highly recommend this to anyone interested in concert photography - or even just music fans who simply appreciate well-composed pictures.
