I'm confused. I have not bought this book, but I did buy the Precious Present in the 1980's that sounds exactly the same. Since it was by Spencer Johnson, I am assuming it is the same. If it is a republish, shouldn't they say so?

I am in a time of my life where I have become stagnant. I was not "feeling." I picked up this book and found that when I just concentrated on "THE PRESENT IS A GIFT" philosophy that I discovered a renewed goal of living for the here and now!

This book is amazing, for when I was in high school my teacher read it to me but I didn't truly understand it until years later when I had flash backs. When I bought this book years later it all clicked and I rethink my life and it lead me to a path of success.

A quick read, enjoyable, easy, digestible....predictable. A good start for someone who has not been exposed to this kind of thinking or book before. It's very obvious and really just a 1-pager... expanded into a book.... Not the best value for a reader looking for challenge in the language of 2011. It feels like a 1990s book (and it probably is!). A good conversation starter. I'd give it to a junior staffer to get them thinking, perhaps a Gen Y, but not a "grown up"....

It was recommended by my counselor. I thought it was alright - a nice, short read. Surprisingly my husband thought it was great and read it before I did. So, for all of you women trying to make life better with a partner who doesn't seem to really care, leave this book out and see if he'll pick it up. It wasn't life changing like I had hoped it would be.

Wow, what a disappointment. I find most self-help books to be obvious common sense but this one takes the cake. "Enjoy the present. Do what's right. Stop worrying so much". Great advice, but it's obvious to me that this author never raised a hormonal, ADD teenager. ADD kids WISH they could focus. Or, try telling someone who suffers from OCD (over-focused) to quit worrying and live in the now. The Young Man in the story WANTS to listen to the Old Man?? Please. This is over-simplified drivel. Listen to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" (1996) and you will get the message in an enjoyable, toe-tapping way that's over in a few minutes.

The book was good. Nothing really new in it. It definitely did not live up to the caliber of his great books, Who moved my Cheese, Yes or No, and Peaks and Valleys.
