I loved Honey for A Child's Heart. It revolutionized reading for my children. I used it as a book list for all of our library trips. Because it was written with such authority, I always felt confident in my book choices for my kids. I was expecting Honey for a Woman's Heart to follow a similar format, but it doesn't. I was disappointed that the book lists were sort of sprinkled through the book, and written by so many different people. I was hoping for the big book list organized by topic. I have often picked up this book looking for a reading suggestion, but for some reason I have rarely come away with a book idea I was excited about.

Both myself and my husband have enjoyed this book and "Honey for a Child's Heart". We have not yet read "Honey for a Teen's Heart", but it is on the shelf waiting for us when we are ready, and our daughter is closer to her teen years. The descriptions of the books she recommends are great for deciding if the book is something you might be interested in, yet she and her friends, do not ruin the stories for you. This is a great book, highly recommended for Christian families, but anyone can benefit from the awesome books on her lists. Her encourangement to make reading a wonderful manner in which to connect with those you love, is of great importance more now than ever. Please write, "Honey for a Man's Heart"!! Thankfully, many of the women's book recommendations are suitable for a man as well.

If you are like me and love to read, but have found that at times you pick up a book and then get taken by surprise because you realize the book has content that you realize it isn't wise to set before your eyes and mind, then this is a wonderful book for you to get.

Gladys Hunt first talks about reading itself--why women do read and why it's important for us to read! It was refreshing, convicting, and encouraging to me. My husband is always encouraging me to read more--rather than watch television =)

Then she talks about the different genres of fiction and the authors that are worth reading. Scattered throughout the book, she has lists of books submitted by acquaintances and friends of hers. I think that a lot of Christian women stick to Christian inspirational fiction because it is lighthearted and they feel they can trust what the book is going to be about and that it's going to have a happy ending. But, Gladys Hunt has suggestions for all sorts of books that are worth reading--and I would say even important to read because they help us see outside of ourselves and understand the world better.

I highly recommend this book! The other two books in the series: Honey for a Teen's Heart, and Honey for a Child's Heart are also very worthy of reading. She is not extreme in her views and takes a very balanced protective, but not sheltering view of what children and teens should and should not read.

I keep this book in a small stack of favorite books beside my bed. It is the kind of book one can read through at one time or come back for a chapter here and there.

The real value in this book is it comes from a "Christian" perspective but brings so many wonderful authors and books one would never find if they stuck to the Christian shelves at the bookstore.

While I found everything Mrs. Hunt recommended to be excellent, I was rather surprised by the recommendations by some of the guest readers. Just use a little more discernment when reading those titles if you prefer books with no language or, ummm... uncomfortable situations for Christian ladies.

Otherwise, this is the best "books about books" I've ever read.

I was frustrated when I wanted a good book to read and just had to randomly choose something from the library. My daughter in law heard about this book and recommended I read about it on line. It sounded like just what I needed. Even my husband has enjoyed one of the books I selected because of reading about it in "Honey for a Woman's Heart". This book should keep me in good books for the rest of my life!

This book is excellent. Gladys Hunt is a fantastic writer and the book has a very interesting concept of naming other interesting book titles as you read along. I have always been on the lookout for other's advice on great books to read and this book does just that. Very interesting, indeed. What is it with these Dutch lady writers?

I am a HUGE fan of her book, "Honey for a Child's Heart," so I was excited that there was a book for ME as a woman. I just finished the book, and it was accessible, motivating, informative and inspiring. I finished it and felt empowered to tackle books--particularly the classics--that I had long put off reading yet yearned to. Pick it up! Does not disappoint!

I loved her first book for children and used it for years. I was a thirsty reader who had small amounts of time for reading ; I wanted my time to be fulfilling. This book was like having a best friend who recommended wholesome books. I plan to purchase the teen book after reading the free kindle sample.
