I got 15 pages into this book before I decided that it wasn't worth $215 and I'd take my chances with a previous edition. The author glibly summarizes millenia of international transactions in a page and a half, then provides the readers with what may be the most insensitive phrase I've encountered in an academic textbook to date: "the expiration of WWII." The first chapter references recent developments in 2011, but if I'm paying money like this for a book (that can't seem to be found used for less than $195), I'm expecting something a bit more recent. Yes, I'm a diva.

Know what? It's not worth $215. Not sure it's worth the $25 I'll pay for a used edition, but I'll take my chances.

Planning to use this textbook for your course? Don’t, unless you are already very well versed in the topic. The authors are undoubtedly very well informed in the area, but fail to convey the material in a manner that will be user-friendly for both students and professors who are less experienced teaching the topic than these authors. The book is simply too difficult and unapproachable in today’s hurried academic world. Too little “real” law and too many law review articles, some of them as outdated as 1996 on China’s potential accession to the WTO (which happened 15 years ago…). One page has a “current” question… from 1991. The teaching manual is in part too extensive, and in part not truly explaining or highlighting sufficient “blackletter law.” Problem-based method is good, but questions too hard for students. Hard to obtain a feeling that one has mastered any of the many areas covered.
