My pre-ordered copy of Elle & Coach arrived on the 25th. Late that afternoon I decided to take a quick scan through the pages. Instead of spending a few minutes, I ended up reading the entire book! Elle's story is well written and very engaging. I felt the stress, exhaustion, fear, determination, love, hope and acceptance Elle, and the family, experienced in dealing with the disease of type 1 diabetes. As I was reading, multiple times I found myself saying to my spouse "You've just got to hear this one little part" and then sharing excerpt after excerpt about Elle's dramatic changes in blood sugar levels, her tenacity with theatre performances and the miracle of Coach becoming part of her life. I appreciate a book that educates and informs me as well as expands my heart. This book definitely qualifies. It's a wonderful story of hope and possibility. I highly recommend this book.

This is the type of book you pick up and just can't put down until you are finished. It paints such a vivid picture of the unique struggles of living with and having a child with type 1 diabetes. It is heart wrenching and so inspiring at the same time. I was in tears through some of it and just in awe at other points of how much the author and her daughter set out to do and accomplish despite the obstacles. Amazing, uplifting and educational. I hope they turn it into a movie eventually!

Many books redefine the past, this book will redefine the future and ease the path of those that follow or are taking their journey with diabetes, whether directly or indirectly. The braveness in Elle, the heroic never ending support of her parents or the unexplainable magic that Coach brings, I felt it all. The author gets it right and shares with you the emotional, educational, and challenging rollercoaster of the family’s life change. It’s a reminder that the path you plan to take in life, could easily be redirected in a moments notice. Are you ready? Coach is. I challenge anyone, even the tough readers to get through it without sneaking a tissue. If you’re a dog lover, child lover, in medicine, in education, reaching for motiving read, or just want a good book to read, this book is for you.

Stefany's gift for writing and storytelling makes for powerful prose that captures your heart and mind.

As the mother of a child with Type 1 Diabetes and the owner of a Diabetic Alert Dog, I was able to relate to the story on a deeply personal level. Throughout the book there were parts where I found myself thinking: 'wow, I feel that way too' or 'I do that also.'

The chapters flow into each other making for an easy and quick read, while the imagery and detailed descriptions bring the story to life -- allowing you to experience a range of emotions including happiness, sadness, heartbreak, disappointment and even mama bear anger.

Whether or not you are familiar with the situation at the center of this book, it is a riveting read. The author is the mother of a daughter, Elle, with Type 1 diabetes. The story of the family’s life is filled with humor and hope. As a mother of 4 kids, I could really relate to the “mom guilt” that Stefany expressed because there never is enough time for each child. The author quickly draws the reader into the universal struggles of raising families in a country where the medical system often seems broken, and help can be hard to find.
Coach the dog is a central character, and we all love him in the end. That this family found help, hope and a best friend with Coach is heart-warming and astonishing. You know that Coach will continue to be important as this family works toward solutions, not just for their own family, but for all who face similar problems.

This was one of the most informative, educational, inspirational books that Ive ever read.
I needed to learn about Type 1 diabetes, as some friends children have it, and another friend has a service dog for their child. So this book certainly filled the bill for me.
Its a wonderful story in addition.
We have a Yellow Lab, she is not a service dog, but she is a delight.
I am planning to donate this book to our local shelter, and I probably will buy another copy or two for the school libraries.

I have known the author, Stefany, since we were in high school and this story is so authentic, and truly her voice. She has always fought for her family, friends, and causes she believes in- and this book shines a light on it all. I hope this starts more discussion and brings more awareness to Type 1 Diabetes and the importance of research. I can't wait to see what's next for Stefany, Elle, AND Coach!
