This is such a great book and it has been desperately needed. With the many thousands of apps available in the market it is nice to have an experienced film maker do all of the leg work in finding the great apps we can use to build a great picture. I cannot wait for Mr. Goldstein to do a Droid version of this book as it would be a perfect 2nd edition!
It is well written and conversational, it does not feel like a tech manual nor is it overly geeky. Awesome book!!

The smartphone revolution just made a giant leap forward with Hand Held Hollywood's Filmmaking with the iPad and iPhone by Taz Goldstein. If you're shooting stuff for fun or trying to make festival-style art, this is the book to help you get the most out of shooting your project on your phone. It's informative, hilarious and you need only point your phone armed with Scan at any QR code to be taken right to the app that Taz highlights in his book. I had SO much fun reading and using this book, it's going to be found on the desk of some award winning filmmaker in a few short years, I'm just sure of it!

I work in the Film and Television industry as a Visual Effects Supervisor. My iPhone and iPad are my constant companions and I thought I was pretty good at keeping up with apps that helped me with my craft... until I checked out this book and realized what I was missing. There were so many apps and ideas in this book that have made my life a lot easier. Thanks Mr. Goldstein.

I recently bought this book since I made a music video without knowing anything about film making using my iphone and surprisingly end up with a nice but shaky watchable video and when I researched online or tutorials, all the hands were pointing to Taz's Handheld Hollywood's Filmmaking book. I have read through 30% of the book and I am thoroughly impressed and I cant wait to finish the book and start making a cool movie. This book will be used as a reference book when I shoot, edit and also when I sit down for pre production and post production. I would strongly recommend this book for any body who shoots videos, makes movies in their iphones and ipad's. Will write a detailed review once I am done with the book.

It used to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to own the equipment necessary to properly make a film (at least one worth seeing!). And therefore, only a limited number of people had the ability to make a quality product. However, over the last 20 years, the digital revolution has made everything involved with film-making faster, cheaper, and therefore available to a larger number of people. With all the advancements we've made, is it any wonder that there are now entire film festivals devoted to content shot on phones?
For those who've been working through this revolution (trying desperately to stay ahead or just behind the curve), the sheer amount of changes and kinds of new and evolving resources out there can be daunting - at the very least.
For those who are products of the digital revolution, staying up-to-date with all the new trends and gizmos, the technology isn't the hurdle - it's the application of those technologies.
So, what's great about HHH's Filmmaking with the iPad and iPhone is that it does a great job of addressing both groups without feeling like it's talking down to either of them - using the tools and technology of the iPhone and iPad to provide incredible cost-saving resources for working pros (right on your iphone or ipad), but also applicable knowledge to those who might be tech-savvy but not understand or have practical experience with film techniques and jargon.

I picked this book up by a recommend from a friend when I mentioned my interest to shoot my own material. I had a very basic idea as to what I could do with my iPhone. After reading quite a bit about the iPhone uses I learned a great deal about what my options would be if I went this route. I've shot several pieces now with my iPhone and the content is better since I consulted with the book. Really good purchase. I recommend this book to any filmmakers out there. Thanks.

This is an exceptional book. As a professional cinematographer, I realize that the tools and the tricks of the trade are changing faster than I can keep up with on my own. So I rely on Taz and his endless research to keep me up to date on the newest apps. This book is wonderfully broad - some of the tools that I found most helpful might not be of interest to casual filmmakers, and some of the entry level apps appeal primarily to non-professionals, but that just means there's something here for everyone.
So if you've ever picked up an iphone and snapped some video, or wished there were an ipad app to make your cinematography just a little bit sweeter, this is the book for you.

Whether you are a complete novice, like me, or a pro, this book should be your #1 reference for modern film-making using our everyday, hand-held equipment. It is analytical in such a way than anyone can understand, learn and create.....and it was also a lot of fun to read! I highly recommend this book for e erroneous who owns an iPhone or iPad! I look forward to more books from Taz Goldstein!
