Hidden in a genre full of raunchy porn pretending to be good fiction I stumbled on Captive Prince. I always look at the reviews but take them with a grain of salt. Although there were only nine reviews they were all 5 star. I decided to take a chance. I'm so thankful that I did. This book is so much bigger than it's classification as erotic fiction would imply. I was completely engrossed from the start. The use of language coupled with imaginative world building will leave you desperate for more. I know it's sometimes hard to separate the wheat from the chaff but you will not be disappointed if you buy this book.

*profound but unavoidable spoilers*

Amazing character driven tale. If it's remotely your cup of tea - a brilliant, beautiful, cold, manipulative prince with hidden vulnerabilities and the honest honorable hero who loves him (the love is the spoiler - it's a slow boil romance but really... no reader can fail to be aware where this story is going) and the politics and violence they face - it's as good as it gets. Plenty of plot that goes very nicely and well developed characters abound and the hero is quite nice and about 100% less annoying than these kinds of heros usually are but really this book is all about Laurent (said brilliant, beautiful, manipulative...), if you love a Laurent kind of character do not miss this novel.

I just finished the last page of this wonderful book and the third one isn't out yet! I love this series! Compulsively readable I could not put this down. While reading the first volume I instantly purchased the second book before I was halfway through the first. This series has everything. Politics, intrigue, fascinating characters, snappy dialogue. S. U. Pacat, you got me! (: I hardly ever write reviews. Almost never, but this was so good I had to just let everyone know about it.

I literally cursed in amazement at the end of this book. Laurent is just so freaken amazing. This was even better that first with even more sexual tension and political games. I cannot wait for the last book. The only thing I don like is the side chapter at the end.. she should just offer the side stories separately. Highly recommended read.

I already gave Vol. 1 a 5 star rating. Vol. 2 of Captive Prince delivers everything I hoped for and more.

This is the kind of romance and plot combined I look for when I want to read something emotionally satisfying as well as intelligent, erotic and compelling as a page turner.

One of the many things I enjoy about this book is how the author builds and builds a tension, both respectful and erotic, between the two main characters (who should be mortal enemies) without ever compromising their carefully constructed personalities. They maintain their fascinating individualities and indepedence even with all barriers broken down. It's heart-stopping.

If I could give this book a higher rating, I would.

As the story progresses, I fell more and more in love with these two characters, which is the mark of a good writer, to entice the reader into caring. After finishing the book, I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I can't wait for Vol. 3!

I couldn't be more thrilled to have 'stumbled' on this gem. It was listed in my 'those who bought this also bought' list as I was searching for more new authors.

A lifelong, voracious reader who loves many genres, from War and Peace to Wuthering Heights to Atlas Shrugged, all before my 16th year, I have only recently in my 25 years of reading since, had the pleasure of expanding my horizons further with authors such as SJD Peterson, Barbara Elsborg, Cameron Dane and Joey W. Hill, all of whom offer outstanding examples in this and similar genre.

Being a little skeptical of such a high number of 5 star reviews I downloaded a sample of Book One of this trilogy first. Didn't finish the first chapter before I was invested in this story and promptly bought book Two as soon as I finished One.

Like KarenMarie Moning's phenomenally successful Fae series, SUP has used the 'cliffhanger' to good effect between the first two books in the trilogy. Since there was no question of more to come, this was completely acceptable. JK Rowling built up a worldwide following when she did this, so we're in good company.

While the Captive Prince does not go as far as these behemoths, remember this series began as an online serial publication. I never got the slightest impression SUP was trying to emulate others, either. These characters and their uniquely interwoven lives seem to have evolved genuinely and organically for her and they capture and hold the interest and emotions of the reader in much in much same manner.

I have fallen hard for Damen and Laurent and while I myself don't see how their HEA will be possible, I trust the author to continue to make their lives as rich, fraught with suspense, believable and emotionally compelling as they have thus far been. If she can swing a pre-order option for volume three, just point me to the link!!

It says a lot about a book when it can transform a 33 year old heterosexual female who has been an avid reader of the M/F romance genre for 15 years into a M/M genre addict. On a chilly February night I was craving a historical M/F enemies to lovers romance novel to warm me up - I stumbled across S.U. Pacat’s Captive Prince series instead. Probably one of the best stumbles I’ve ever made and I fell hard.

The Story

Set in a historical AU that bears likenesses particularly to the historical cultures of Greece and France, I expected to read a chintzy slavefic possibly analogous to the bodice rippers of which I was acquainted. What I found was a story that is not chintzy. Not a slavefic. Not anything that my presupposing mind would have expected from a free WIP posted by an amateur author.

Prince Damianos of Akielos, aka Damen, stars as our narrative guide. Influenced by slavefics of Anne Rice, Pacat notes in a Livejournal interview, that Damen’s origins lay in “the alpha warrior-prince who keeps his attitude and sense of identity in all circumstances.” Damen is all that and more. He is likeable, relatable, no genius, but no dummy, honest, confident, a fighter, but reasonable. The kind of hero who is just itching to gallop into a fray in shining armor on a white horse and kiss the pain away - and even cuddle afterwards. Alas his world is jarred when he is forcibly taken from a place where he is centered and complacent to a place where he is, well, not. Enter Laurent, Prince of Vere. Inspired by Dorothy Dunnett’s Francis Crawford of the Lymond Chronicles, Laurent is ten steps ahead of everyone … possibly even Pacat herself.
