I've given this book to many college-bound. One recipient told me he used it more than he used his high-priced collegiate dictionary (required by the university and also a gift from me). Many people think we no longer need this type of aid with the spell-checks, etc., but I am a good speller and a professional writer, and couldn't be without it.

I found an old copy of this at my office -- some idiot had thrown it away. I now use it every day. As a result, I no longer mispell any words.

My mother bought me a similar one when I was in high school 37ago, used it for years. Lost it in a move and using a dictionary is not the same. My first was a hardback tough little book, but this is paperback. If I had this in college in the 90s, I wouldn't have had to be tied to the computer for spell check. I can truly admit I am not the greatest of spellers. I grew up in Germany and my relatives didn't speak English, and my father is American. My mother got one for me because she couldn't help me with spelling or English homework. This is a wonderful book if you want the correct spelling quickly of a word and already know its meaning. I liked this book so much I bought a copy for the daughters of a friend since they have no computer. Cheapest way to get spell check, makes a nice gift for anyone in school or college.

Best Spelling Dictionary ever printed - unfortunately out of print. It just helps you find misspelled words - nothing else added.
Buy one if you can find one.

This is a great book. This one is a replacement for one that has been used to the point it is held togather with tape and staples. I need this book. It workes great for me. Oh it's very eazy to use if you just want the correct spelling of a word. It does not give the definition of that word or how to use it.

I got the "New Third Edition", when I went off to college in the fall of 1969. Now 41 years later it is still on my desk. It is even more amazing that this book has never been updated or revised, AND it is still available. Get one and guard with your life.
