Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3 - Five stories in rhyme, ranging in length from 4 to 12 pages. In the title selection, a group of young ghouls spends the day "monster-watching" and eating at the mall. Other selections feature a hungry skeleton that just can't seem to keep a meal down, a Frankenstein monster made from various foods, two new parents who give birth to a "werebaby," and a ghost who is frightened by modern kids and their high-tech gadgets. Black-and-white cartoons accompany the poems. The macabre humor and clever wordplay will appeal to beginning readers. Use this slight offering to supplement collections of Halloween poems, such as Bobbi Katz's Ghosts and Goose Bumps (Random, 1991) and Jack Prelutsky's It's Halloween (HarperCollins, 1996). - Sally R. Dow, Ossining Public Library, NY

5.0 out of 5 stars My children want more of David Steinberg's poems!, October 12, 2004
By Peter Parke (Illinois) - See all my reviews
My children loved Grasshopper Pie & Other Poems and seem to never tire of reading these delightful poems. We are now actively into The Monster Mall & Other Spooky Poems, David Steinberg's second book. We anxiously await the pleasure of reading the next books in the series. Mr. Steinberg is a delightful combination of the Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein classics of my childhood.
