It has a lot of practical information but I have had fish since 1965, so it was limited as far as new information for me. It is a good little book, but not my favorite or even in my top 2. For the new koi owner it would be very helpful to show basic requirement for healthy koi living standards. In the right bginners hands it could save them from making expensive mistakes, so there is a nitch for this book. :-)

I usually like the Dummies books but this one wasn't what I was looking for. There was too much focus on things like pond design and building and not enough on caring for koi, which is what I needed. Fortunately, Amazon has a terrific return policy so they rate 5 stars.

Excellent source of information for beginners. Covers the obvious and also the important but most often overlooked aspects of Koi. Could use more descriptions on the color varieties, but there are other books for that. If you want to know what's involved in keeping Koi, this should be your first book.

This book gives a lot of information about Koi care, types of koi, as well as pools/ponds. Are there better books out there for say diseases? Yes. But this book gives an excelent overview of all topics relating to having Koi.

I saw someone was upset about the info on ponds, but I feel exactly the opposite. Their living area is a very important topic for keeping fish of any type. If the pond is too small, or the water quality goes out of wack you might as well hook them, scale them, and gut them. I am not advocating this (I don't know how they would taste).

My one comlaint would be the number of color photos, but again you can get those in other books, which don't have the vast amount of info in here.

Buy it you'll like it.

Super information. Clear info, easy to understand. I bought this book before I had my 3,000 gal. pond built. It really helped me understand what type/kind of filtration I would need/want.
I still look things up, now 3 years into the hobby of keeping a pond with great fish!

What a wonderful idea for the yard. The sound of splashing water. Pretty flowering water plants and Koi fish swiming around. The pond was built, skimmer and filter set in place, fish added along with the plants and off to the side was a pile of instruction books in about 15 different languages. Woops--Where do I start? There is a lot of information that I need to keep these finned friends alive- "Koi for dummies" answered all my problems in a language I could understand with out going back to school for Fish 101. The Koi are a joy to watch--the pond is quite peacefull to sit by but believe me, its a lot of work. This book has made my "new job" much easier

This book is for intelligent people wanting to build a big pond. This isn't for true beginners wanting help with a small pond. It's very technical and mainly talks about large scale koi ponds. Definitely not a book for "dummies".
