I really like this book, and the others in this series that I have used.

It's drawback though is that it is VERY aligned to writing reports for children and could have included more examples of adult reporting.

If you are getting feedback in graduate school that you need to write more clearly and in a more organized way, and that you need to support your claims with evidence, this book will be helpful. If you already know how to support a claim with evidence, and how to write paragraphs with topic sentences, you won't learn a lot from this book. The examples of the many different formats for reports are useful for giving a sense that there is no one right way to organize reports.

The book isn't that great. Any book that spends the first chapter selling you on the thing that you already paid for is almost always (in my experience) not worth the time or money. This is no exception. As other reviewers have said, it's a beginner's book. But really, this is not the book you should be reading if this is your field of study. It's not even good for technical writers.

Here's a sample of the writing you'll find in the book:

"School psychologists , speech and language therapists , diagnosticians, and educational evaluators most often assess children who are not functioning well in aspects of school due to cognitive, academic, developmental, linguistic, or emotional concerns. These assessments usually focus on determining an individual’s strengths and weaknesses , as well as specific educational needs. The results then inform the development of an educational program as well as the selection of methodologies. Evaluations are also conducted to identify gifted and talented children who would benefit from enrichment and accelerated curricula."

Common sense. Even if you're not in the field.

Here's another jewel from chapter seven:

"Psychologists asked to conduct psychological testing serve as consultants to whomever makes the referral. They are consulting psychologists with a special expertise in formal evaluations in intellectual, personality, and perhaps neuropsychological functioning."

This book would be good as a short, easy reference if they cut out all of the fluff.

As it is, it's not bad but it's not good.

I did not lower any stars for the Kindle formatting of the book, but that is also mediocre.

This book provides what it promises plus gives value for money. Like other titles in the series, it suits the approach of reading the entire text and then marking specific pages for later reference.

I purchased it from Amazon.com after searching the tables of contents and several other pages. When it arrived I was pleased to find that all sections of the book contained sound professional advice, good writing, and in-depth coverage.

The authors show an appreciation of differences in reporting styles that are linked to the type and purpose of an assessment. The book clarifies the over-riding need to present information clearly and concisely within sections that enable readers to access information and understand the assessor's interpretation of a client's scores, responses and behaviours.

Report writing after administering a test is tricky. The wording can be tricky. This books helps explain what parents want to hear and how to write it. Every test is different, therefore every report is different. This book explains how to write it properly, without skipping anything significant. Great book.

I ordered this for my wife who has a new job where she has to write assessment reports, and she was taking several hours to write one the first time, and would then have to rewrite them about half the time, and now she is down to less than an hour, so I think this book helped a lot.

Books giving instruction on writing reports are hard to find. This is a decent starter book. It has good reminder boxes and gives an overall structure for writing different types of reports. It is a reference for those trained in test assessment and report writing but desire a refresher or reference to ensure a complete report.

To be honest I still haven't been able to really implement this book as I prepare assessments, but the book itself is full of good information to help with documentation.
