This book is a little different from Mr. Draaisma's other volumes. In this book he writes about the people after whom diseases and syndromes have been named. Each chapter is a biography of the person for whom the malady was named, how it came to be named for that person, and the method by which his name became connected to the disorder. It is in essence a collection of essays. His writing, as always is clear and the topic is interesting.

`Disturbances of the mind' by Dr. Draaisma is an excellent digest and fascinating introductory to the history of neurology and psychiatry, through numerous illustrious `case studies'. Full of vibrant stories and vivid insights, this book strikes a faultless balance between the science and the politics on the road to several major discoveries. A beautifully written and well structured narrative, full of captivating stories and fresh ideas, to delight both the lay and accustomed reader.
