All the Ingedients for a Captivating Children's Fantasy

This 9 1/4 inches by 11 3/8 inches hardback book has all the ingredients for a most wonderful children's fantasy story. A magical Frost King who lives in the folds of the Northern Lights, a Snow Dog made with snow, a wintery icy mysterious wonderland where miracles happen, the love of a boy and girl for a dog, the love of a dog for a boy and a girl, the halls of an Ice Palace and the separation and reuniting of friends all make for a wonderful winter, Christmas or anytime children's story.

The book contains 30 pages - each page has a full color full page illustration which will captivate the interest of most children. Some of the illustrations are done in deep shades of ice blue, gray, white, and shades of blues and dark blues to convey the atmosphere of an ice Kingdom or Palace.. When gazing at the illustrations when can almost sense the chill of ice and snow in the winter air. Most pages have just the right amount of text ranging from a small paragraph to a half page.

The story opens with the ghostly and mysterious Frost King leaving his Ice Palace at the top of the world to bring his snowy magic to the lands below. One day the Frost King sees a little boy and his siter playing outside and he decides to shower them with enough snow so they could build a snowman. The little girl exclaims. "Anyone can make a snowman, I want to make a snow dog instead." The boy and his sister make a beautiful realistic snow dog that they care for and love just like a real dog. This is where the magic of a truly captivatiing fantasy story begins to unfold. You will want to read this book to find out what happened to snowdog. Wonderful Story with Beautiful Illustrations

All three of my grandchildren (ages 4, 7, and 9) were immediately into this story and commented on the breathtaking illustrations as well. I bought the book at an elementary school bookfair after reading it and was delighted my grandchildren liked it as much as I did. There are many children's books to select from but few measure up to this one! The illustrations alone are worth the price of the book.

Quietly wonderful

This book is just quietly wonderful, a very sweet story about children playing in the snow and the dog they create. While I was not SHOCKED by the ending, I was pleasantly surprised, and that was nice. My children were enchanted.

Third Grade Class Held Captive

My third grade class loves to hear books read to them as all classes do. They voted it a 5 because of the story and the beautiful artwork. Lonely children build a snowdog instead of a snowman, talking to it and giving it things. The dog is then given life by the Frost King who takes him back to his home to keep him safe from the sun and warmth. The children miss their friend greatly. Snowdog longing for his children also returns to them and .... you will have to read the rest of the story for the ending. Students made comments about how the story magic was love and they couldn't wait for the pictures to be shown on each page. Instead of a "fist to five" vote, some of the students wanted to give it a "double five." Worth the time to read and keep in your library at home.
