My child loves this book. It is engaging, good plot, believable characters and not too scary for kids. It was very fun for me to read as well, somewhat like I can enjoy the early Harry Potter books (the later ones were a bit dark for young children). This book was age appropriate.

Just read "Scare Scape" and I loved it! Although it's targeted towards younger readers it's definitely enjoyable for people well over that age. The story is engrossing, the characters are well developed, plus there's the fun of magic and monsters! I have a feeling this book will be a best-seller. Buy it for your kids but read it yourself!

Best book ever. Good for both boys and girls. You really felt like you where in the story.... it was a mix of adventure and mystery ....it was also super funny. I recommend it to every one. by Libby age 11

Basic premise of the book is three siblings find a gargoyle that they use to make wishes but their wishes become twisted and start to grow stonger, in a bad way. The siblings have to find a way to reverse the wishes before it's too late!

I think this book would appeal to third and fourth graders, but it's slightly longer (298 pages) than most third graders would be willing to commit to reading. It's creepy (brother turning into a killing monster called a Snarf) but not too scary for the elementary set. In fact, those kids that crave the scary stories may be persuaded to read this. You might pass this one along to students who have read and loved Goosebumps books, it has a similar feel to it. There are pages in the middle that show the monsters and give a paragraph about each one. This would be better in color but I suppose that would be cost prohibitive. The monster characters are so developed in the book that I can't help but think we will see them in another book soon.
