Gr. 2^-3. It's too bad the illustrations aren't livelier, because the story about the first Seeing Eye dog in America is quite upbeat and contains some interesting anecdotes. Moore's telling is a little stiff at first, but the circumstances, relayed in a straightforward manner softened with some conversation, win out: Moore follows the dog from training in Switzerland to home in America with Morris Frank, who was instrumental in starting the Seeing Eye in America in the 1930s. The typeface is slightly enlarged, and there's additional leading to make the reading easier. Not every page has an illustration, but there are plenty of pictures to break up the text.
