I was lured to this book after having studied and used Ultra-Height as taught by Jerry Kein. Ultra-Height takes clients deep into somnambulism and even the coma-state when possible, then elevates the client's 'mind' up, out of their body and into very high levels of self awareness.

I wondered if Ultra-Height and Hyperempiria were the same. They're not.

Hyperempiria as Don Gibbons presents it immediately directs the client to experiences of heightened levels of feelings and focused attention using direct suggestion and metaphor. Though lesser used, this method certainly can by-pass the critical factor and establish trance.

I found it to be a wonderful read and taught me alot of techniques that I will use with my clients who are searching for creativity and enhanced abilities. There are other methods for uncovering what the client needs to know to change. This method takes a relatively 'healed' being and directs them to be all they can be. I am very interested in using hypnosis with students to improve study skills and test taking ability. I am also working with visual artists and will use the techniques in this book to inspire them to greatness.

There are a lot of hypnosis books out there. This one, for it's unique approach and modest price, is well worth owning and studying. It's not the end-all in hypnosis study but it does present both deepening techniques and elevating techniques which most 'how to' hypnosis books do not include. I'll refer to this book often. A a good reference book for the beginner and experienced hypnotist.

This book is really bad.
I've been practicing NLP for about 14 years and direct hypnosis for about 5 so i know good hypnosis when i run into it. This is not good hypnosis.

The premise is simple, run a guided fantasy where rather than telling the client to relax, sleep, go deeper; you tell the client they feel higher, fuller, more alive to create what an NLP we call an uptime state. back when this book came out (sometime in the 70's) the concept was amazing, but now with NLP and ericksonian hypnosis, this kind of technique is useless.

There's another problem with this book, there are no "language patterns" or step by step guides. thank god i know nlp and can see what language patterns he's using or else i would be thinking "what should i say?". if you are a beginner you will not know what to do after reading this book and will have to rely on the hypnotic scripts he's written (which are total junk). That brings up another point, this book is about 70% hypnotic script, 30% reference to other peoples work.

anyways, i'll save you all $3.50. in NLP we have roughly 32 presuppositions used in trance language, hyperempiria uses 3 of them.
1. change of place verbs (come, go , leave, arrive, enter)
2. Change of state verbs (change, transform, turn into, become, expands)
3. comparatives (more, less, -er words like better, higher, fuller)

let me give an example
[standard hypnotic phrase]
Now close your eyes and relax deeper into trance

[ericksonian phrase]
Notice how you're tired eyes have relax deeper into your unconscious, as you sit comfortably.

[Hyperempiria phrase straight from the book]
The beauty and the joy of the scene before you continues to increase, as your consciousness expands more and more.

if you know anything about nlp and the 32 presups, then you can skip this one

I own just about every book written on the subject of hypnosis. This book, inmy opinion, is the most useful book ever written on hypnosis. Let me make one thing clear; I don't think it is the best book for a beginner in this area, but to be without this book would be a tragedy.

In short, Don Gibbons clears things up, and moves beyond the arguments that surround hypnosis, and gets down to the business of showing you how to help people-or yourself-make rapid changes.

BEWARE POTENTIAL BUYERS of the Kindle Edition! This book is advertised as of the year 2000, but it was written in 1977 and published in 1979. This edition is just a reprint of the original book of 1979. The references are from publications of 1961 through 1977. Do not get fooled by the Table of Contents where the References are not even mentioned and the LOOK INSIDE feature will not let you go to the end of the book to find out by yourselves. It is a 36 years old manual, and as you may expect, plenty of advances in the field of hypnosis have emerged during that period! For example, for $2.99 you can get the Kindle edition of the 2012 book EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT HYPNOSIS by Bryan Sanders full of much more recent references and bibliography.
