This is an excellent book to prepare your child before going to the doctor. Many children are afraid of the unexpected. Being in the medical field, I find that children who are prepared beforehand do better. This book describes Corduroy's day at the doctor. It gives vivid pictures of him entering the office, being weighed, and having his throat and ears examined. It also shows the doctor listening to Corduroy's heart while giving him breathing instructions! At the end Corduroy gets a shot as the doctor explains, "We don't want you to get sick." My daughter (age 3) is great at the doctor's office and I really owe a lot to it to Corduroy! My daughter loves Corduroy!

This short and simple book has been very helpful to me. My 1 year old son has to go to the doctor VERY OFTEN for ear infections. He seems to relate well to seeing what Corduroy does there, and we talk about when he does to the doctor and they do those things. I think it would be helpful to explain to children who don't have to go often as well, in knowing what to expect. The pictures are great, and the words are simple and to the point for young children.

My little 2 1/2 year old always cried and screamed when he would go to the doctor. Before his next appointment, we got this book and it made a huge difference. Everytime the doctor would check him, he would say "like Corduroy Daddy?" I would say yes and he would let the doctor do what she needed to do. This book is very cute and works very well.

We bought this book after our 16 month old started to get a little nervous around the doctor. The book is PERFECT! everything in the book is laid out exactly like any doctor's office, and it helps our little one know and recognize what she sees when she goes for her checkup!
I highly recommend buying this book, even before 1 years old so that your child can get used to seeing what is in a doctors office and what to expect when you get there.

Honestly, I'm glad some parents have found this book helpful in preparing their children for doctor's visits. Personally, though, I like it because it is:
1. Short.
2. Colorful, with simple illustrations.
3. Featuring Corduroy. Not Corduroy as I knew him as a child, but Corduroy who my 1.5 year old son cannot tear apart (he's not READY for a longer book, and how could the classic Corduroy tales be retold in 12 pages?).
4. Has something of a plot--arrives at the office at the beginning, leaves at the end. A lot of adaptation books like this (including some in this series) lack that VERY important element, in my opinion.

My son passionately likes all the books in the Corduroy Board book series--the illustrations, number of pages, and amount of text per page are PERFECT for a young toddler. I'm not sure why this book is recommended by Amazon for 4-8 years old--not knowing that age group well, I can only say that for the 12 month and up crowd, these books are great!

This is a classic, and I purchased this for my VERY doctor resistant 2YO son, who is terrified of everything to do with the doctor. I'm talking a meltdown when he sees a stethoscope. Anyway, this book, while not totally relieving him of his fears, has definitely helped him normalize doctor visits, and given him pictures and words to associate with his visits, which is really important. He notices that Corduroy looks concerned in the pictures, which I think is okay, since it's okay to be nervous when you go to the doctor. It even shows Corduroy getting a shot, and of course the very scary stethoscope. I purchased this with a little doctor's kit toy in hopes that he will be calmer the next time he goes in. It's starting to work!

Not my favorite book at all and I am still on the lookout for a good, simple book about going to the doctor. The story was simple enough and it has the ability to hold a young ones short attention but I didn't like some of the wording in the book and it was almost too simple to help. I was really annoyed that Courdroy put on too many pounds and ate to many cookies in a children's book. That was a little much. I would have also enjoyed a parent being present to make it more realistic.

If you are a parent or grandparent, get the Corduroy series for your kids
to learn to read and understand life. I can still remember how my middle
son loved his Corduroy books and carried them everywhere he went.
Must be a good thing, he is a surgeon now! You can't go wrong!
