While Anne Frank: Young Diarist breaks no new ground, the short overview of Anne's life is accurate and quite comprehensive. There are just a few revelations, even for those steeped in Anne Frank lore. The book should not supplant (chiefly) middle school readers of Anne's diary itself, but the overview would be a good recap for, say, tenth graders whose view of Anne and her times is a bit fuzzy.

Reading about Anne Frank is always bittersweet since we know the end of the story. This book filled in some gaps from her childhood that other books had not.
