Very disappointed. It was advertised as gude to sailing on a budget. I was hoping it would inform our plans for extended retirement cruising (starting in about 3 years). I searched for a synopsis or sample of content on line - but found nothing. since it was advertised by practical sailor, i assumed high quality. Upon receiving the book, I quickly realized it was not - and tried to figure out how to return it - but couldn't. The book is very simplistic, contains dated graphics, uses pound sterling as monitary denominaiton and is not focused on crusiing expenses - but on how to buy a boat (presumably a first boat) inexpensively and limit ownership expenses. We have owned keel boats for 27 years (currently a Freedom 38) and beyond being a mediocre publication, has noo relevance to our needs. Very disappointed that Practical Sailor touted it.

This book is 138 pages. Of that, only 43 pages have anything to do with actually using the boat. The rest is how to determine which boat fits you and how to buy the boat. A quick look at the maintenance sections shows that 90% of the advice ignores fiberglass boats. A lot of the info that may be relevant is very obvious....Ie..."buy the last model when a newer model is introduced". Seriously, if you want to save money cruising...Don't buy this book.
