This is yet another of those encyclopedia-type listings that leave you wondering what item to shortlist and where and how to actually start applying the information.

This book has the usual fatal flaw: it doesn't really seem to have an integrating philosophy or central principle by which I could work out where to start and how to take further steps. It is a sort of dictionary. It offers a list of over 100 "therapies" - mainly herbs, vitamins, minerals, fats, homeopathic remedies - and tells you what they can fix. At the end is a list of symptoms with a shortlist of possibly useful remedies. You might try any one of them, or combine several but it's basically guesswork. Not only that, but the ones I have tried that are covered here (a surprising number) have not helped me.

Too many books on nutrition and nutritional supplements are like this - homeopathy and herbs too. They lack any focus on causation, there is no consideration of a unifying thread or starting point which, when addressed, could clear a number of seemingly different symptoms. (Homeopathy claims to do this but why, for example, is ignatia overwhelmingly given for just one symptom - grief?)

Those who have studied Chinese Traditional Medicine (CTM) understand my point. CTM looks for, and addresses, a root cause for all the symptoms presented by a specific person. Too many health books, just like the conventional medical system, see patients as a collection of parts, or of diagnoses, each separate item to be fixed by a different specialist or herb or nutritional supplement (or combinations), for example.

This is yet another of those encyclopedia-type listings.

My sister bought this book, and I liked it so much that I bought it for myself.

The book gives you cross references for many conditions and diseases and the natural remedies recommended. However, the main ideas are written by product: for example, magnesium.

What I like a lot is that the author specifies the amount or formula needed for each product, and this is something most other health books lack.

including vitamins, herbs , acupressure and others.

For instance, aloe vera juice is known to
lower blood sugar levels. Alpha lipoic acid

Noxvomica is used for colitis and bladder infections.

Stevia is a classic replacement for white sugar. The preparation
is sold in most health food stores. Diabetics and persons trying
to lose weight may benefit by using stevia as a sugar substitute.
Some bakeries utilize stevia and other herbs to make sugar-free
cookies and cakes.

Tea Tree Oil is a classic tonic for mouth and gum infections,
as well as skin infections. Eye and ear infections may be
helped by colloidal silver.

Gallstone issues may be treated with milk thistle, tumeric,
peppermint and Vitamin C. Aortic elasticity may be enhanced
by the use of garlic. Arrhythmias may be helped with the use
of Coenzyme Q 10.

Vitamins and herbs should be taken with the
concurrence of your medical provider, nutritionist

I often refer to this book for natural treatments. It has the most popular therapies for many ailments. It's a must have for anyone self treating with natural remedies. I've nearly worn it out in only a few months. You will be surprised to find out that many of the remedies are cheaper, work better and are healthier than the poison you doctor has been giving you. For instance, try ginger capsules for an upset stomach, nausea or motion sickness. It works in just a couple of minutes and is very powerful- even incredible!

I have been told repeatedly by more than a few medical doctors that I know more about supplements and herbals than they do... which is quite sad, really, since we treat so many of our own minor (and not so minor) health issues ourselves cheaply, more easily, and with out nearly the fuss as most doctors would have treated us with pharmaceuticals.

This book is one of those must have references for those who live a holistic lifestyle - I highly recommend adding this book to the reference library at home.
