The books is really good. I also have the PMBOK, but i basically just went through the glossary and main subjects.
This book was way easier than the PMBOK book to follow since the PMBOK is basically a reference book.
Anyways, the best thing about this book is actually the CD program.

Make sure you take the practice exam in CUSTOM mode and do one topic at a time.
The reason is redundancy on one topic group really makes you remember easier.

Here are my test tips to pass:
Approach the exam as if you are writing a paper.
So start with a plan, outline, then fill in the meat.
So I would make a schedule (in fact schedule the exam according to your schedule, it forces you to study).
Study the main topics and make sure you understand it.
The main topics are the knowledge areas and its processes: e.g. integration mgt, scope mgt, risk mgt, and all of the processes within it.
Then take the custom exam one topic at a time. Then retake it again, until you get a 90% or higher.

I really like the book and testing software that make up the PMP Training Kit. Overall I felt it was a good value purchase, the content was both accessible and relevant.

It's designed for people preparing for the PMP exam but would be useful if you are learning about project management in general and would probably be great for CAPM preparation too (it's aligned with the PMBOK Guide 5th edition). The real world examples in the text ground the theory and helped me examine my own experiences against the PMI framework. The practice test CD really suited my learning style and is a great resource that built up my confidence and allowed me to target my learning - this feature exceeded my expectations. I'm looking forward to getting the PMP Rapid Review, also authored by Sean Whitaker.

Above Sean Whitaker's process charts listing Inputs, Tools and Techniques, and Outputs, he writes that the reader has further information in the Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide. That should not be explanation enough for omissions.

In Chapter 8: "Communications Management," the Plan Communications Management process chart was missing a fourth input, "Stakeholder Register."

In Chapter 9: "Risk Management," Risk Management Plan section, the Risk Breakdown Structure is missing two categories under Technical, two categories under External, two categories under Organizational, and one category under Controlling.

In Chapter 9, he has 7 bullet points under Risk Management Plan but the PMBOK, 5th Edition has 10. PMBOK lists Timing, Revised Stakeholders' Tolerances, Reporting Formats, and Tracking.

In Chapter 11: "Stakeholder Management," the Control Stakeholder Engagement process chart was missing a fifth output, "Project Management Plan Updates" listed by the PMBOK.

An excellent companion to the PMBOK as it reinforces the base-level information provided in that text but also included exam tips and real world examples to provide guidance and context. The practise test CD is also an excellent asset for preparation.

This book is the only reason I passed my CAPM exam, it fills in the gaps and provides real world context you don't get from reading PMBOK. Has a CD with questions and you can test in study mode and in real exam mode. Very helpful and would recommend.
