I purcahsed this book on a whim. At the cost of $0.11, yes eleven cents, with the shipping was 36 times more expensive than the book ($3.99), it was a great deal. Be aware, this covers the earlier Boxsters, the 986. 987 owners may not be too happy with it but if you get it for the historical info, then it is still ok. I have a '99 Boxster so the book is a great find for me. It even has a picture of my car on the cover. :) Well, actually one that looks like mine.

Anyway, lots of historical and technical data for the 986 owners. Enough to keep the engineer nerds like myself occupied for a while. I really enjoyed this book.

This is a coffee table book, a quick read with lots of pictures. In that sense it is a good book, but for those who are seriously considering a boxter, this book leaves more questions than answers.

Published in the Boxster's introductory year (1998) with high quality color illustrations on almost every page John Lamm's detailed masterpiece traces the history of Porsche roadsters, the financial difficulty the company encountered by the early 1990's, the development of the highly lauded concept car shown at the 1993 Detroit (of all places) Auto Show, and finally extensive information is presented in a non technical way on how the concept car became production reality. I own and love a first generation 986 Boxster and learned many things I did not know about my car from this book. More recent works cover the subsequent evolution of the Boxster, now entering its third generation but still retaining its original lines. This enjoyable reading is by far is the best treatise on how this great roadster came to life and saved the company.

WHEN I PURCHASED THIS BOOK,I DID NOT REALIZE THE INFORMATION WAS DATED.THE BOOK WAS PRINTED BEFORE THE HIGHER POWERED S MODEL WAS SOLD TO THE PUBLIC IN 2000.IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET FOR AN S BOXSTER,THE INFORMATION IN THE BOOK IS OK FOR BASIC INFO,BUT FALLS SHORT IN HELPING TO MAKE A PURCHASE FOR A MORE CURRENT CAR.
