Belinda Hulin is fast becoming a national treasure. Her Roux Memories, published in 2010, was a boon to the cultural heritage of Cajun kitchens she saved from the ravages of Hurricane Katrina. Now this generous Cajun offspring brings us The Keepsake Cookbook, the perfect primer for any kitchen.

Hulin provides step by step instructions--right down to information on computer software at our fingertips--for creating our own family heirloom. As valuable as any jewelry or valued furniture, recipes should not be downplayed in one's inheritance. At reunions or informal get-togethers, the topic invariably turns to talk of the recipes we favored as children. No one salivates over a necklace, a ring or a lovely mirror. It's Mom's pork roast or Aunt Pearl's coconut pie.

Thanks to Hulin, we have the instructions, relevant essays, and explanations to make the job doable. The Keepsake Cookbook just keeps getting better with use and a dusting of flour.

I love cookbooks, scrapbooking, etc. etc. I made a cookbook for my daughter of all her favorite recipes of mine and gave it to her on her wedding day. I checked this book out at the library and decided it was a keeper, so I bought it for my Kindle app. Can refer to it whenever for some great ideas!
