I bought this book for my 9-month-old because I loved David Walker's sweet illustrations in Flip, Flap, Fly!: A Book for Babies Everywhere. The pictures in "Bears on Chairs" are sufficiently cute (although they don't hold a candle to "Flip, Flap, Fly"), but my daughter and I find the text very boring. Almost every stanza rhymes the words "bear", "chair", and "there", so you won't find many interesting sounds, vocabulary, or word play. Furthermore, every line of the entire book rhymes with the same sound, "-air", which quickly starts to sound very harsh and repetitive. I give the book three stars because we do like the illustrations and the book promotes creative sharing, something I haven't seen much in other baby-to-preschool books. For now, though, I have to paraphrase most of "Bears on Chairs" to keep my daughter's attention.

This is a super sweet book told in rhyme. My toddler and infant both love it. We got it at the library and I had to buy it because the toddler kept asking about it weeks after we returned it. I love reading it to them at bed time.

Meet four bears - Calico, Fuzzy, Yellow and Floppy. All four bears have a chair so no one has to share. BUT when Big Brown Bear comes along he doesn't have a chair :( Can he share one with Floppy? No, that doesn't work.

Suddenly Calico has an idea and together they make one double chair. Oh dear that doesn't work either! Fuzzy sees what is going on so scoots her chair over. Yellow follows with her chair so that all four chairs are now in a row. Yes! Success at last! Sharing and working together works!

LOVE the lesson in this book and the text is well-written accompanied by sweet, pastel paintings.

There are four little chairs just waiting for a bit of company to sit on them. Little smiley Calico Bear found the lilac chair just to his liking. Fuzzy Pink Bear umph, umph, upmped her way up onto the little green one with the crisscrossed backing. Yellow Bear thought the blue one was just dandy to dance on and Floppy Bear claimed the last one. Flip, flop! "Four happy bears on four small chairs. Not a bear has to share." But all of a sudden along came Big Brown Bear a lookin' for a chair

Big Brown Bear tried to sit with Floppy. Oh, no . . . that big bottom just won't fit on that chair "No, Floppy Bear and that big bear cannot share one small chair." Poor Big Brown Bear looked so unhappy that no one could share with him. Calico Bear put two chairs together. Maybe a double chair could hold a few bears. PLOP! THUMP! "Two of the bears fall off that chair! That double chair can't hold three bears." Hmmmm, maybe Fuzzy Bear and Yellow Bear can figure out how to solve this dilemma.

These adorable bears remind me of Care Bears only they look cuddlier, more huggable and squishy. The rhythmical text doesn't miss a beat and will help the young child learn the sounds and cadence of the English language. The illustrations are extremely appealing and the uncluttered background makes them stand out. The story line was a smile creator from the first page to the last and this is one story that little ones will ask to be read to them time and time again. This book and a soft, cuddly bear would make a perfect gift!

I bought this board book as a gift. I flipped through it and read it to preview before wrapping it up. "Bears on Chairs" is a simple story with cute, colorful pictures (see cover for example). The lesson is also very good. the story teaches about sharing and working together. The story talks about a handful of bears trying to figure out how they will all sit on the chairs because they didn't have enough chairs for one for each bear. Overall, this is a good board book, and I recommend it.

This book is a wonderful book to teach emotions and math skills. The bears are very considerate and problem solve how to let the big bear join them when they are short 1 chair. I loved the many ways move the chairs until the problem is solved. This is great for the preschool age child. This will go on my all time favorite book list!

This book was recommended to me by a friend.
It has really cute illustrations and a wonderful story, teaching sharing and cooperation, without being preachy.
Rhythms and rhymes flow well and my daughters (7, 5 and 2) all enjoyed it.
