(This review has spoilers, although as you're probably buying this for a child I hope that doesn't matter!)

As you have probably guessed, Hans turns out to be Matilda in disguise -- "Hans was Matilda ALL ALONG" my 2 year old yells gleefully. The art is adorable and there are nice details from the beginning that hint at the answer (Matilda is carrying a suitcase with Hans' scarf and mask peeking out of it). Initially Matilda and Hans seem like the stereotypical good girl, naughty boy, but then there's the reveal and afterwards Hans is good and Matilda isn't. Well-paced and fun to read, good for younger kids or older ones reading by themselves.

Format: Hardcover
Matilda is a very good cat, but Hans is very naughty. Yet somehow, when Hans goes too far and a reward is offered for information about him, Matilda knows exactly where he can be found. In Matilda and Hans, Yokococo masterfully blends a simple story with striking illustrations. While the story teaches the basic principles of naughty and nice, it also shows that everyone contains at least a little bit of both. Matilda and Has makes a great read-aloud for preschool children.

Fun book that is beautifully illustrated. Some may argue that the morality is a little off but amidst all the goodie goodies in kid's literature, it's fun to have a little mischievousness. And Matilda is just so cute.
