I personally found Katy's recommendations for the eclectus parrot to be right on. It is nice to read an "easy to read" book with so much wonderful information. Katy does a great job of clearly describing the personality characteristics of the beautiful but sometimes independent eclectus parrot. This is a book that I will give any new owner of one of my babies because it does such a great job of describing and informing about this beautiful and great companion parrot.
If you are looking at getting an eclectus this book is a must - being [an inexpensive] book, but loaded with great information - what is the loss if you decide that an eclectus isn't for you. Thanks Katy for writing such a right on book!

There have only been 3 other books written about the Eclectus parrot, and all of them are outdated and focus mainly on breeding. Ms. McElroy has done an excellent job in gathering the latest information for the pet Eclectus owner and presenting it in an easy to read format. This book should be required reading for all new Eclectus owners. It will answer all of your basic questions.

This book is really good for general information on caring for an Eclectus parrot. Gives good insight into their personalities and behaviors. Book is full of beautiful pictures and directions for preparing food for the Eclectus. For anyone who loves Eclectus parrots and would like a good reference guide for owning one, this is the perfect book for you.

This is a concise and helpful guide for all those who reside with an Eclectus parrot or hope to do so soon. Eclectus are unique in important ways other than being sexually dimorphic (males and females look different). They also do not do well on seed or pellet diets fed to many parrots. The book covers care of your bird, how to provide necessary intellectual stimulation with safe toys, information about common health problems and lots of other information critical to the well-being of your feathered friend.

I recently bought a Red-Sided Eclectus female for my Mom after seeing them for the first time at an exotic bird show. They were the most beautiful birds I've ever seen and we both fell in love. We didn't know a lot about them, so I did some research online and ordered a few books. This one was the most informative and detailed of all of them. There was information specific to Eclectus that even the breeder we purchased ours from didn't know. It seemed with pet stores as well that nobody knew a whole lot about this particular breed... some had never heard of it! I highly recommend it to anyone with an Eclectus or considering purchase or adoption.

Clearly not enough research has been done on the Eclectus parrot as far as it being in your home. It very briefly explains their personality and what to expect and it seems like most of the rest is about every other parrot must knows: Cage size, placement, toys, emergencies, etc. Don't get me wrong, it's easy to read and understand and these are all good things to know, but I wanted to know more about the bird, and with all the information out there on Macaws and African Grey's I had assumed that this would give similar in depth info.
It does go through some ideas for food since this breed of parrot is prone to fatty liver disease and that you should not be feeding your parrot an all seed diet or an exclusively pellet diet.
I really wished it went into more of their behavior, but it's a good overview I suppose. I have read a few other parrot training type books and I just feel like there isn't much information out there about dealing with certain behaviors (other than biting and screaming).

I received this book when I purchased my Eclectus and I am glad it was given to me. It is rather informative and to the point and is easy for a new parrot parent to find information. It has rescued me on many occassions. The only thing I wish it had was a more detailed section on illness and symptoms to watch for. Otherwise , I would hightly recommend this book for anyone considering getting one of these parrots.

This little book provides more insight into Eclectus behavior than I have seen anywhere else. Eclectus are different from other parrots in many ways, and someone who isn't aware of this might purchase one for its beauty alone. The chapters on finding a reliable breeder and keeping a pet Eclectus healthy are especially useful.
