Rhodi Hawke has created a supernatural thriller that topped my reading list in 2012. "The Tangled Bridge" is the sequel to "A Twisted Ladder". Layers deep in new southern Gothic atmosphere, these books will captivate and stimulate you. Vacillating between past and present New Orleans, with a fast pace and building sense of urgency, Rhodi Hawke's are some of the best supernatural thrillers I have read in some time.

Today's review is on The Tangled Bridge by Rhodi Hawk

Just as good as the first installment, The Tangle Bridge was difficult to put down and took me just one day to complete. And though there were a few editing misses, I continued to be as enthralled with the story as I was from the very first page of the first book.

Now that Zenon is in a coma you would think that the danger to Madeleine, Ethan, and the Lumens would decrease, but that is not the case. Zenon has been practicing and has become quite proficient at the Pigeon Games. In fact, he may even be good enough to thwart his great-grandmother Chloe.

Chole, on the other hand is still searching for Madeleine's nephew Cooper, and will do anything to get him. Even if that means hurting Madeleine.

The story continues to weave seamlessly between the past and the present, offering valuable insight to each of the LeBlanc family members while captivating the reader with the happenings of the briar and the river devils.

Amazing twists abound in this second installment. You never know what will happen when the briar is involved. Who will be the one saving you and who will be the one chasing after you?

I hope I won't have to wait very long for the third book!

**Contain spoilers from first book!**

The Tangled Bridge is the sequel to Rhodi Hawk's A Twisted Ladder that follows Dr. Madeleine LeBlanc as she comes to term with her new ability, and her dark family's history. The People in Madeleine's family all have the ability to influence/manipulate people's will/mind, something they call ` Pigeon Games'. In the previous book, Madeleine not only learns that her father isn't really sick but can see in the briar (a dark and twisted place where the river devils resides) but she too has the knack. Madeleine's life got more complicated in A Twisted Ladder when she discovers her brother Marc, who committed suicide has a child, and Zenon her long time neighbor is also her half-brother. Zenon tries to kill Madeleine by using pigeonry on her, but instead Madeleine used it on Zenon first causing him to stay in a vegetative state. Madeleine thought with Zenon being bedridden she'd be safe but it turns out Zenon is able to walk the briar, and is still taking over people mind without being in a physical body. Zenon and Great-grandmother Chloe is out to find Marc's child, destroy all the Lumens (especially a certain young boy...Lumens are a group of people opposite of the briar children, Lumens are people full of light/life), and have Madeleine join their side or die.It is up to Madeleine to stop Zenon and Chloe, all while trying to stay alive and not succumbing to the briar/pigeonry.

In this follow up sequel we learn more about the LeBlanc family, and readers get a more in depth look at the briar, river devils and pigenory.

This is the second book by Rhodi Hawk that I have read and they keep getting better! The culture of the New Orleans area and its history comes alive. I really have a difficult time putting the book down once I begin reading it!!!!! My enjoyment is similar to that I had reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy. Both boks will make a wonderful Christmas present.

Madeleine LeBlanc is still learning how to hone her briar-born abilities. Zenon Lansky is in a coma now, yet this gives him the ability to always been in the briar gaining knowledge and strength. Chloe is determined to find a way to preserve and lengthen her life span, but she needs the secrets from the briar (which she can't access directly) to do so and is poised to force one of her great-grandchildren to carry out the deed. Along with Madeleine's current troubles, we are given entrée into the world of Chloe's children and their fight against their mother.

I enjoyed `The Tangled Bridge' even though I felt sometimes lost in the briar myself. The story jumps back and forth a lot and I couldn't always keep up with what was past, present, and potentially future. I absolutely love the world Ms. Hawk has created and I see how the split between past and present is used to give information to readers, I only wish it had been done a little smoother. Yet truly, there is no time in the briar and everything is happening all at once. I enjoyed seeing Madeleine gain more knowledge and control over her briar-born powers and the evolving relationship between her, Ethan, and the lumens child, Bo Racer. By the ending, it's clear the story is far from over and we'll have to wait and see how far into the briar patch Ms. Hawk takes us next.
