I am a fan of Spectrum workbooks. They provide good lessons and could easily be the same lessons the child is using in the classroom. Easy directions for the child to follow and answers provided for the parent. Pages are not cluttered. Nice clean look to the lessons.

Spectrum's Geography contains good information re: maps, but I was hoping for more about the U.S. and the world. I'm not sure how much map-reading skills a third-grader needs to know.

My wife has a masters in reading and our daughter goes to a gifted school. My wife said this book has advanced vocabulary that is too high for 3rd grade. Long story short, the school is now on the hunt for better geography books.

This book is way too hard for most third graders. I had to do a lot of scaffolding and explaining for them to understand. You may have better luck using it with older kids.
