I was looking for a quick recap of the PMP study information and some good sample questions, however this book is riddled with errors. Given that I was trying to learn material, I found the fact that there were so many errors unforgiveable. And there was no errata that I could find.

There has got to be a better study guide out there than this one. I'd recommend you keep looking.

There are numerous errors and typos throughout this book. I guess the upside is that if you can catch the errors, you may be ready for the exam. A little better quality control is needed from the authors though. Here's an example:

3. The identification of risks associated with a project happens when?
A. Occurs only at the beginning of a project when the risk management
plan is developed
B. Is an ongoing process, regularly scheduled throughout the life cycle
of a project
C. Occurs as needed throughout the life cycle of a project
D. Both C and D

3. Answer D is the best response....

Huh? And there are many others like it. I haven't checked if there is an errata for this book...if there is, it's got to be fairly large.

I've been preparing for my PMP exam for a number of weeks. And have just spent the past week and a PMBOK course - I think I'm getting reasonably familiar with the content of PMBoK. I really wanted to drive the content home with a final review and grabbed this as a means of getting a ready reference with just the key material. I am very disappointed and would recommend people choose just about anything over this. Critical path activities shift 2 days and result in a one day amendment to the finish date (p.94). Sound odd? You're left to ponder the implications of that. Are you wrong or is the book? Is unsettling. I'm still pondering the following (p.59):
"Which is the only process that must occur after a project manager has been assigned to the project?" (A. Develop the project charter. b. identify stakeholders. c. develop the project statement of work. d. scope planning.) Answer: D - Scope Planning. One would assume, in the PMI's world, that the PM is assigned prior to charter finalisation. Hence you would then move the Identify Stakeholders. The answer also states that the Project Statement of Work 'occurs' during initiation. Not really. It's an input to the very first process and so must be considered a pre-project activity. But Scope Planning? What's poor about the answer (other than what's been suggested) is that "Scope Planning" is not a process according to PMBoK - why confuse students with this paraphrase and ambiguity. At least use "Define Scope" if you want to call it a process in the context of PMP. (It would be petty to highlight the notion of the "PM being responsible for all activity that takes place during the project lifecycle" but this is not quite true either)

Like the other review, I found several errors. This is kind of bad for a book that's about quality.

The back cover says that the book comes with a free online edition with the purchase of the book. To get the free online edition, you have to create an account, give your credit card information, and apply for a "free trial membership," which will cost you $42.99 after the trial.

I like the way the book is organized and it's really easy to find information. The problem I have is that I don't know how accurate the information is once I find it.

I am a PMP and purchased this book as an additional study aid.
The content is a poor reprint of the PMBOK and cannot be used in place of the PMBOK nor does it
explain the content of the PMBOK. The questions presented do not represent those found on the PMP and rote memorization of
the material in this book will not be useful in passing the PMP exam.

The whole point of this book is to have a quick review, but I'm constantly trying to figure out what certain typos mean. There was a point about quantitative and qualitative risk and the author definitely couldn't keep them straight. How is this supposed to help me keep them straight?

This is a great guide to assist with prepping for the PMP exam. The guide not only helps you memorize the knowledge areas and the processes but helps you to "think like PMI" which is extremely beneficial when preparing for and taking the test. I used this guide along with other review materials and free online PMP apps and flashcards and successfully passed the test on my first attempt.
