This book, along with its companion (OSX Mountain Lion -- The Missing Manual) are essential if you want to get the full utility out of your computer. We know very little when we start with a new machine. The "Help" menus are, IMHO, worse than useless because they make you think you can find out how to do some new task. I refer to these books a lot, and (even as an experienced computer professional) would be lost without them.

This book has wonderful color screenshots beginning from page 1 until the end. Unfortunately there is nothing in here that goes beyond what a basic Mac user could not find by going to the Spotlight in Mac. Nothing goes beyond how to set up the email client, add notes to the notes app and set up a wireless network. Nothing in here and I would recommend a different book if you want anything other than a very rudimentary intro to the mac OS.

I started reading this as a complete newcomer to my new iMac, having made a quantum leap from W.xp. I soon real used that I needed something a lot more basic to start on, but I am sure it will help enormously once all the basics are in place.

I'm working through this book with the One on One training at the Apple store. It has been helpful in many areas, especially in the Mail, as well as other areas. I do recommend the book, but I still needed the extra classes. This book is not a means to the end, to know all. It doesn't help with many simple basics that is assumed you probably know. This is said in the book. So, real simple basics, you need more help, before doing some things in this book.

This guide seems quite useful. My system, however, is Mavericks, not Mouintain Lion. I didn't know Apple made several versions of its systems. Now, I do so I bought the Mavericks edition.
