My 18 year old daughter recently bought 2 'pigs' and she said this book alone answered her questions better-and more enjoyably- than others she'd picked up at the library. This book is not only filled with super cute photos, which is fun, but also useful/helpful information. Favorite chapters are "Good Eating"- what to feed- and not feed!- your guinea pigs; and the "Everyday Life" chapter that explains very well how to set up their home. (Who knew there were so many bedding options- and which ones they like best?!) Excellent book that will keep you informed throughout the life of your 'pig'.

i liked the fact that the only thing cheap at Petco was this book :) being a new guinea pig owner i wanted to learn all i could to keep a happy, healthy pair of piggys. it had in depth information about just about everything i could think of. the C&C cage idea was in there as well, me and a friend are going to attempt it :) i would recommend this book to anyone starting out with piggys :)

This is the first book I purchased after getting my new Guinea Pig. It is very informative on how to take good care of your pet. I still am though, going to check out other Guinea Pig books as well to see how they compare. One thing about this book is that it talks about the "show" Guinea Pigs. Meaning how to take care of your pet when you want to enter it in a show. I just want the "pet" side of it. I dont plan to enter my pet guinea pig in a show any time soon. I actually never knew they even have Guinea Pig shows!Bottom line, good book overall, just some sections you would skip and get to the pet side of things.

I compared this book with Audrey Pavia's "The Guinea Pig." While covering the basics of owning a pet, it also has information about watching out for foods with oxalic acid, caring for senior guinea pigs, and symptoms of ailments to watch out for. It has better descriptions of the sounds a guinea pig makes and what they mean. However, this book fails to tell you anything you can do for your guinea pig if his health is seeming poor, except to "see a vet" for everything! Nothing on what can be done at home or if the vet is closed. It has descriptions of guinea pig breeds, but no pictures (we like photos)! And no mention an important part of a guinea pig's digestive system (how they obtain B vitamins by eating partially-digested fecal pellets called cecotropes. This is why they appear to occasionally eat their own poop). I think it best to read both books to cover many important aspects about your little friend.

Also, do some internet research on foods with high oxalic acid (spinach) and foods that can cause gas buildup (broccoli) so that you know to feed your pig these foods in smaller quantities.

My youngest son recently received a guinea pig after researching them online. This little book has answered all our questions about how to care for "Theodore" and what his sounds and behaviors mean.

I borrowed this book from the library after adopting a Cavy (Guinea Pig.) I liked it so much, I decided to buy one. It is very informative and detailed. For instance; Guinea Pigs are not Pigs, nor are they of the Swine Family. They are Cavies. (Cave - ees.) This book only rated four stars because it lacked One item I considered Vital Info.: How to identify the Gender of your Cavy. All books I read on Cavies recommend keeping @ least TWO Cavies, as they are social animals. But you don't want to keep a male & a female together, unless you want a "gazillion" babies. (Yes, Cavies are of the same Order (Rodentia, although there is a debate about this.)as Rabbits.) Rabbits, Mice, Rats, and others, are considered "Rodents", and multiply very rapidly. Other than this oversight, this is an excellent book, filled with color pics, and vital info. Highly Recommended.

This book i kind of cool to have and read, but if you have Internet connection you can learn everything in this book. So its nice to have, but you really don't need it.

Also for the fact that the info is on the web, this book should be much cheaper than what i payed for. I am paying for consolidating the knowledge in one book, but even that it seems like it is missing somethings.

The book is very "fluffy." It's just saturated with common sense and has very little good information. I give it an extra star for the nice pictures. It's basically a picture book.
