Swords from the East is an outstanding anthology of Harold Lamb's short stories and novellas from the adventure magazines of the twenties set between eastern Russia and the far east. Lamb mesmerizes the reader with action and flare as he transports you to the stronghold of Prester John in the days of Genghis Khan. Then he sends you with a Scottish cartographer, hired by a greedy Russion to map Tatar Steppes during unrest in 1771. If you love a good story you will devour this book, then buy the other seven in this remarkable series of reprints by Bison Press, associated with the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Harold Lamb is basically Robert E Howard with less darkness and more history. Go read and enjoy.

Lamb's history is better than his fiction, but his fiction is just his history-light, so to speak. His prose style is quite readable.

So, I recommend it to anyone who wants to forget the cares of the 21st Century and remembers when issues could be determined by a man or woman with a blade, rather than someone with an AK-47. Inner peace to all.
