Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

"What happened when Tom Turkey stepped up to the plate? He hit a fowl ball." Turkey Riddles by Katy Hall and Lisa Eisenberg, illus. by Kristin Sorra, gather more than 30 jokes for youngsters to dish out. Ages 6-9.

From Booklist

Gr. 1-3. Riddles are always a great way to have fun and encourage reluctant readers to pick up a book. In this holiday-themed roundup, there are more than 30 groaners, one per page, each accompanied by a painting that gives a few clues, and the answer. Some of the riddles are too obscure for the audience: "What do you call a gobbler in a flowered shirt, plaid shorts, and a beanie? (A real turkey!)." But the majority are right on target: "What did the sweet potato say to the turkey? ("Here I yam)." The art, with cross-hatched details, is bright and appealing. Not a must purchase, but still great for a good time alone, with friends, or even in a classroom. Stephanie Zvirin
