I thought this was an interesting book; the essays cover a broad range of tribes, topics, and time periods but lack any citations that would suggest where the authors found their information. I have no doubt that the authors were presenting original research, but without citing any references or sources I'm left feeling like many of the essays are rough drafts of on-going research. There's no easy way to assess the validity or accuracy of the information they present. In short, its a great book for people interested in American Indians but is quite broad in its geographic and topical coverage. It might be a source of many anecdotes and generalizations about American Indians, but not necessarily a title useful for research.
